Converse is apologizing after a campaign image sparked outrage online over comparisons to K*K and lynching imagery.

The image, part of the brand’s global 'Stars Align With KARINA' campaign for the Chuck 70 X, features K-pop star KARINA in a white skirt. A shadow of Converse’s signature star stretches across her body, creating an image that drew comparisons online to a K*K hood and a hanging body.

Converse has since removed the image from several of its social media accounts and websites. In a statement, the company said, “We’re sorry,” adding that it understood why the image was “deeply upsetting,” acknowledged that “we got this wrong,” and said it was working to remove the image from everywhere it appeared.
