Congratulations to our dear friend and collaborator Isaac “Drift” Wright on the announcement of the World Premiere of the documentary DRIFT at SWSX in March. It details the story of his extraordinary journey as an artist and an incredible human being. We still have some spellbinding work at the salon, so please dm to set up an appointment.

“The journey of the past five years has been profound to say the least. For quite some time, I had doubts about whether I would make it here. Every delay felt personal, but in time I would see it was all for the best. There were oceans of grief to cross, an immense amount of healing to do and the letting go of what I thought I wanted life to be to make way for what it was asking to be through me. The biggest giant to overcome was myself.
Five years ago my lawyer and I sat across from each other talking over phones through the glass as I was behind bars. Things were bleaker than bleak at this time and there were genuine discussions of whether we could win or not. I was a hardheaded kid still in a lot of ways, but Laurence would agree to fight on with me against overwhelming odds. I’d always joke (with full conviction) that we couldn’t quit now because one day this would all be a movie; then we’d laugh and get off the phone and I’d go back to my cell day dreaming and filling my journal with visions at night. I didn’t know much, but maybe I knew a little.
Thank you and Hidden Empire films for agreeing to take on my story in the spirit of independent filmmakers. Thank you for taking time to work to understand the nuances of my personhood as I was still sorting through so much of it myself.
Thank you to my friends, family, lawyers and loved ones that have invested so much in loving me and giving me a shot at life.
Thank you to the community of artists that I feel so inspired by and privileged to call friends. Thank you all for your solidarity when I had little power to help myself. I love you, and I hope my life can deeply reflect the best of you all.
Looking forward to how what this film will become at SXSW and to the world beyond that afterwards.”

A New York State of Mind brings together two distinct yet deeply complementary visions of New York City by photographers Kit Young and Mikko Takkunen. Presented by FAS44 Gallery at their Las Vegas space in collaboration with The Hulett Collection, the exhibition traces the pulse of a city that is forever in motion—its people, its architecture, its shifting rhythms of light and shadow. Young’s atmospheric, cinematic frames sit in conversation with Takkunen’s precise, observational studies, creating a portrait of New York that feels both intimate and expansive.

Opening Thursday, January 22, and on view through February 20, 2026, the exhibition invites audiences to experience the city as these artists see it: restless, luminous, unpredictable, and endlessly compelling. A public reception will celebrate the launch of the show, with Mikko Takkunen in attendance. Together, these works offer a rare opportunity to encounter contemporary New York through the eyes of two artists whose practices continue to shape the evolving language of street and documentary photography.

In support of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, both artists have donated a print to be raffled off during the Opening Artist Reception. For 50 years, St. Jude’s Ranch has provided a safe, nurturing home with therapeutic residential treatment services to thousands of abused and neglected children in Nevada. St. Jude’s Ranch has made and continues to make a difference by creating new lives with new hope for these children.
