👋🏾🍳My love language(s) = words of affirmation & food/quality time. Say somethin nice, remember how I like my eggs & eat with me. That’s pretty much all it takes.
🏠Some of this perspective might also a trauma response. Growing up in a home with 1 parent 👵🏾 with an enabling spirit & a fixed income (Gramma) & then living with my mother 🦹🏽♀️ who was literally out doing crime to get me clothes and a computer for school…I always felt like a burden when I requested anything.
😰I’ve also had some of my favorite belongings stolen by family members…& that taught me at an early age, everything you “own” can get got.
Everything is temporary. So, I detach. I’m careless with things because if I get attached to them & they break or are taken away…then I have to grieve an object. My mindset is/was most “things” are replaceable & regardless, you can’t take it with you…
💝Giving gifts is also tough for me cause I don’t like disappointing people. I’d rather give you money and let you handle that. For some folks, that works just fine, but for others, it’s impersonal…I’m trying to find a balance. And, having grown up witnessing parents who were absent, but sent gifts…sometimes a gift doesn’t feel as genuine as quality time.
👩🏾🎨Painting has been a gift I’ve given myself. Middle key, this is an expensive ass hobby! LOL. I’m a writer, okay. We only need paper and a writing utensil. 📝 At max, a fancy pen every now and then.
🤑Once I started painting, I realized that sometimes I’d have to invest in quality materials to make quality works of art.
And that’s been a beautiful lesson for me. I get to drop the limiting belief of “this is why we can’t have nice things” and replace it with, “BABOP, I can MAKE nice things!”
☕️Anywho, the nicest “thing” in this carousel of pix is the one of me! LOL. With a name like Vogue, a personalized item is a rare find. I love this mug so much because it not only has my name, it has our family hummingbird on it, too!
It’s a nice thing. My sister bought it because she knows I love tea. She took time to order it for me. It’s a symbol of her love. I can take care of it.
I can have nice things.
