If you did not know, Herbie Hancock is my forever favorite musician. His genius piano and keyboarding skills are unmatched. From Jazz, Hard Bop & Jazz-Fusion, to Funk, R&B, Dance & Electro-Funk, Herbie has done it all. This 1975 live album was once only available in Japan, but due to a 2014 reissue, it became readily available in the U.S. The recordings cover four of his celebrated albums ~ "Maiden Voyage", Head Hunters", "Thrust" and "Man-Child", and it features the stellar musicianship of Bennie Maupin, Paul Jackson, Bill Summers, DeWayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight & Mike Clark. The results are electrifying live renditions of some of Hancock's most beloved tunes. The vinyl reissue features a bonus cut, "Hang Up Your Hang Ups", a song that was sampled by Janet Jackson in her song "All Nite (Don't Stop)".🔥

I've been listening to Sarah Vaughan for 45 years, and I still haven't found the words to properly express my love and reverence for her. Although I can hear her influence in so many singers, her voice was a once in a lifetime musical gift. Sarah's recordings covered many grounds, and the magic at the center of it all was that voice. "The Divine One" was not only a major album for her, but the title was also one of her monikers; the other being "Sassy". The Sassy Divine One delivered smooth, moody, bluesy and remarkable vocalist performances throughout the recording. 🖤

My relationship with Billie Holiday goes back to when I was 10/11 years old, which is when I was introduced to her music. Initially, I did not understand it. I couldn't receive her vocal delivery, but I was still intrigued with her. In my sophomore year in high school, still intrigued by her, I did a book report about her life, and that opened me up to her more. As time went on, I understood her artistry and technique, and how influential she was to many singers, and I was hooked. This album, "Songs For Distingué Lovers", became my go-to album, and is now my favorite of hers. I got a B+ on the book report BTW. I was robbed! ☺🖤

This rare album from Chicago-based funk band Magnum Force, was an early 80’s gem full of soulful ballads and thumping funk. The single and title track "Share My Love" was the most celebrated song on the album, although other tracks were just as appealing. This would be the band's only full-length release, but they continued to release singles on various labels, most notably 1984's "Cool Out". 🖤

The sophomore solo album from Singer/Songwriter/Actress Vanity, fared better on the charts than her 1984 debut "Wild Animal". While the debut holds a special place in my heart, "Skin On Skin" displayed musical and vocal maturity. Before recording the album, Vanity took time for vocal lessons (something she refused to do for "Wild Animal"), and the results were a stronger and focused vocal delivery on several of the tracks. The lead single "Under The Influence" was her biggest solo hit, reaching No. 9 on the R&B Singles Chart & No. 6 on the Dance Chart. The album reached the Top 20, stalling at #18. Vanity recorded another album, with Jesse Johnson on production duties, but the project was never released. It may have been quite good, considering the two great songs Jesse produced for her on the "Action Jackson" movie soundtrack - "Undress" and "Faraway Eyes". ❤
