In jail art this week we learned about Surrealism. Then we did collages where we distorted reality, or as Dali used to say, "tricks of eye-fooling" by putting unexpected things together in the wrong scale! I'm always amazed by what these artists create!

This quick reel is a peek into my process. This piece is called Emerging into the Light. I start with an abstract underpainting and write an intent with water soluble crayons. Sometimes it's a poem and sometimes, like this case, it's about emerging out of the darkness that many of us feel at times right now. There are many layers of paint and texture. When the piece is finished, very little of the underpainting and words are visible but nonetheless, they are there and inform so much about how the piece ends up! This piece is 40 x 30 and $2,040 and is available through my website . I painted this scene in a much smaller format once before and really wanted to paint it again larger and a little differently.
