This brass trade token was issued between 1879 and 1894 by J.K. Moore, a post trader at Fort Washakie on the Wind River Reservation. Used in local trade for basic supplies, furs, and payroll, these were called "brass checks" or back then "yellow money". Having one survive in such a grade of Uncirculated condition by NGC makes it a rare and incredible piece of early Fremont County history! 🤠 🐎

In June 1906, Mexican workers at the American-owned copper mines in Cananea, Sonora, went on strike to demand safer working conditions and equal pay to their American counterparts. After the company rejected their demands, the protest quickly escalated into a deadly riot that was violently suppressed by Mexican government authorities and armed rangers from Arizona. Today, the 1906 Cananea strike is remembered as a major turning point in labor history and a key catalyst that helped spark the Mexican Revolution four years later.

The East India Company, founded in 1600, was a British mega-corporation that started as a simple trading business and grew to conquer an empire. At its peak, the company controlled half of global trade dealing in tea, silk, and spices and even commanded a private army twice the size of the British military to rule over India. Fueled by corporate greed and brutal exploitation, its massive power eventually forced the British government to step in, strip the company of its control, and dissolve it in the 1870s, leaving behind a lasting legacy as history's ultimate cautionary tale of corporate monopoly.

Meet the appraisers!
Levi Hanson will be in-house at the Rare Relics Roadshow on October 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lander Community & Convention Center, ready to take a look at your treasures and share his expertise.

Levi has been dealing in coins for three years through his business, WyoCoins in Lander. He first began collecting coins 13 years ago after developing a strong interest in numismatics through a collection he inherited from his grandfather.

Levi's areas of interest include U.S. coins, world coins, and, to a lesser extent, ancient coins. He has a genuine passion for the historical and artistic aspects of numismatics, and says "Coin collecting and dealing are more than simply a business - they are a lifelong passion and a way of life."
