Title: "IDENTITY CRISIS."

In this issue, Bruce Wayne comes out of the Gotham River without memory of what happened the night before.

He goes back to Wayne Manor and finds out that his reality has been changed. His life as Batman seems to have disappeared and his friends have no recollection of his identity as Batman.

Bruce deduces that this must be the work of one of his enemies, but he can't just prove it.

Upon seeing Batman on the TV, Bruce gears up and goes to confront the impostor who must be behind it all. During the confrontation, Bruce realizes that Batman is faster and stronger than him.

Bruce returns home, defeated and tries to make sense of everything.
He tries to convince himself that it is all part of a vicious plan against him, until Batman comes knocking to his door.

At that moment, Bruce's reality comes crumbling down and the truth is revealed.
Batman tells him that he is not Bruce Wayne, that he is in fact the Synaptic Kid.
He has the ability to read people's minds allowed him to learn Batman's secret identity.

However, the powerful mind of Batman disassociated both identities from each other, leaving the Synaptic Kid helpless and confused, thinking he was only Bruce Wayne.

After his exhausting battle vs. the Mandarin, Iron Man commandeers a Chinese fighter jet and begins flying back home!

However, Shell-Head's jet is mistakenly shot down over the Balkans by NATO forces!

By the time Iron Man wakes up after hitting the ground, he's surrounded by a pack of gnomes and Frankenstein's monster!

In this issue, The Dreadknight has defeated and imprisoned Iron Man and Frankenstein's Monster at Castle Frankenstein.

Meanwhile, Jasper Sitwell pursues Krissy Longfellow and Harry Key for stealing Stark company patents.

The chase is witnessed by Jack Hart who decides to investigate.

Iron Man and the Monster are chained in a dungeon with Victoria von Frankenstein.
The Dreadknight begins to torture Victoria.
The enraged Monster escapes his bonds, which distracts the Dreadknight just long enough for Iron Man to escape.
Iron Man and Dreadknight then face off in battle.

When Iron Man saves Victoria from a blast of the Dreadknight's gun, the Monster steps in to defeat the villain, knocking him down the stairs.

Iron Man departs, leaving the injured Dreadknight in Victoria's care.

Note:
Jack of Hearts will later become a recurring character in this title.
He will eventually serve as Iron Man's protege.

"THUNDER OVER LONG ISLAND!"
Iron Man takes on the Jack of Hearts and the merciless minions of Midas!

Here it is, the cover to The Invincible Iron Man # 103.

Title: "RUN FOR THE MONEY!
Creative Team: Bill Mantlo, George Tuska, Mike Esposito, Phil Rache, Gaspar Saladino, Annette Kawecki and Archie Goodwin.

While Iron Man takes a commercial jet back to the United States, Jasper Sitwell's pursuit of Krissy Longfellow and Harry Key ends when they are taken aboard Mordecai Midas' Flying Fortress.

Learning that Key failed to obtain Iron Man's armor, Midas throws him from the Fortress to his death.

After Krissy reveals herself to be Madame Masque, Midas allows her to accompany him to Stark International.

When Iron Man approaches, Midas' underlings use Stark defenses to attack the Golden Avenger!

Misunderstanding the situation, Jack of Hearts attacks Iron Man, but their battle becomes moot when Midas reveals himself, declaring he has acquired possession of Stark International, which he renames Midas International.

Struck by this development, Iron Man departs with Madame Masque.

Meanwhile, Marianne Rodgers, Stark's telepathic ex-girlfriend, is released from Milford Sanitarium.

Elsewhere, Detective Michael O'Brien, a.k.a. the second Guardsman, discovers Harry Key's discarded co**se.

Returning home, Iron Man finds Madame Masque held at gunpoint by a spurned Jasper Sitwell.

Despite Iron Man's armor, Sitwell puts up a good fight, but he ultimately realizes the situation's futility and withdraws.

Elsewhere, Jack of Hearts ponders how to help Iron Man and Marianne Rodgers, en route to Tony Stark, telepathically renders a passer-by insane.

Abe Klein, whom Midas extorted into helping blackmail stockholders months before, attempts to reach Stark by phone but Midas, via his Mechanoids, intervenes.

Nick Fury's group confronts Iron Man, demanding Stark show himself to help retake Stark International, which S.H.I.E.L.D. considers too valuable to leave to Midas, Sitwell going so far as to threaten Masque's life unless Iron Man complies.

Elsewhere, Marianne Rodgers, arriving in Southampton, leaves a train full of insane passengers in her wake!

As the Guardsman, Jack of Hearts and Iron Man clash with the minions of Midas!

The three heroes plus Madame Masque and the Wraith seem headed towards victory until Midas deploys his legion of Iron Men!
Now, all of a sudden, Shell-Head's gang is under duress from a dozen Shell-Heads!

One by one the good guys fall to the empty suits of armor under Midas' control until only Tony Stark remains!
Now it's Midas' approaching victory that looks as good as gold!

Note:
This is the last issue of Iron Man by artist George Tuska.
Up to this point, Tuska had easily drawn the majority of all the issues of Iron Man Volume 1, that's total of 71 issues and one Annual.

"HOUR OF THE GOLDEN DOOM!
FINAL SHOWDOWN AGAINST THE MADDENING MENACE OF MIDAS!"

Title:
"AND IN THE END..."

Iron Man has defeated the Mechanoids but is confronted by Midas himself.

Midas encases him and his allies in gold with his Abe Klein-designed golden touch.
Gloating, Midas, who extorted Abe Klein's cooperation by implying he would reunite him with his lost wife and daughter, callously tells him his family is dead.

Jack of Hearts' powers counteract the golden touch and inadvertently knocks over Iron Man, whose armor only has been transmuted.

Tony is able to free himself. With his armor destroyed, he dons replacement components from the Mechanoids.

Although Midas quickly defeats Jack of Hearts, Iron Man puts up a better fight. When Klein rebels, Midas strikes him down with a killing blow.

Suddenly, Marianne Rodgers interrupts the battle, lashing out at Iron Man with her mental powers, but strikes Midas instead, rendering him comatose.

After hearing Klein's dying words, Iron Man escorts Marianne, who has retreated further into madness, from the scene.

"THE MORE YOU HIT HIM...THE BIGGER HE GROWS!
IRON MAN AND YELLOWJACKET HELPLESS BEFORE THE RAMPAGE OF THE GROWING MAN!"

The issue: The Invincible Iron Man # 108.

"GROWING PAINS!"

Working to free Madame Masque and the others from Midas' golden imprisonment, Iron Man and fellow Avenger Yellowjacket use Enervator technology to power a bio-ray.
Jack of Hearts will then redirect the bio-ray to revert the subjects to normal.

Nearby, Stark employees unwittingly activate the Growing Man, who searches for a power source in the hope of contacting Kang the Conqueror.

Iron Man battles the Growing Man but fails to stop him from disrupting the bio-ray process.

Although Jack of Hearts is rendered unconscious, his body continues to channel the required energy.
Iron Man supplements the process with energy from the Growing Man himself, disabling the giant android and reviving Madame Masque and the others!
