Every American citizen should be familiar with the first line from the Declaration of Independence. But the second line is much more obscure: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.” That phrase “the consent of the governed has been forgotten in 21st century America – and in Missouri.
On November 5 citizens all across Missouri will have the opportunity to vote on Amendment 5….Or more specifically, an opportunity to “govern” (bully) the Lake area into having a casino that we don’t want. Voters from all over the state will decide whether this small community will bear the burden of a business that is guaranteed to be successful by making false promises of wealth to its customers; a business that also makes false promises of great benefit to the educational systems in Missouri. A business that will be successful only because “the house always wins”.
Vote NO on Amendment 5, Missouri!
