THE RESULTS!!

Well that sure was...The Oscars! There were some pretty awesome upsets, including a big "screw you" to everyone who drafted "The Wife". There were also some pretty big wins, including a big "AYYOOOO" to everyone who drafted "Blackkklansman"! "Bohemian Rhapsody" almost got away with being the big winner tonight, but "Green Book" managed to sneak away with 18 points. Mediocrity won! The highest score possible tonight was 61, which one person won...and it was me, Sarah 😉

A huge shout out to our winner Gloria Palma, who has been a FAS supporter since day one. To everyone else - well played!! And better luck next year!

Well I think I speak for all of us when I say "god when will this end?" We're less than a week away from the Oscars and this awards season has become anyone's race. Front runner "Bohemian Rhapsody" has all but disappeared from the race, while sleeper hits such as "Eighth Grade" and "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" have picked up the pace (thank god).

"Spider-Verse" continues it's well-earned domination and "Green Book" still remains the one to beat. Absolutely shut out this round was "A Star is Born", and while "BlackKklansman" picked up a BAFTA, it still remains award-less here in the states. Woof.

The final round awaits us as Oscar sunday comes CRASHING onto us, but who KNOWS how that's going to play out? The WGA, DGA, and PGA all had different "best picture" winners. This is going to be one helluva finale.

Did you feel that? That was a game changer, m'friends. There were a lot of points on the board tonight, and for the most part, everyone took advantage of that. A little less than half of our players managed to have snub-free draft picks! If you were trusting the HFPA and The Golden Globes to help build your line up this week, it may have hurt you in the end.

Roma scored the highest points tonight for a single film with +17pts (again, not including Best Foreign Film since that category is disqualified for this game) and most everyone drafted that film. Other popular draft choices like "A Star is Born" and "Into the Spider-Verse" proved profitiable for most players, racking up 5pts and 10pts respectively. Also who knew we could have ties? In any case "The Wife" also received the same 3pts that "A Star is Born" did. The dark horse winners tonight were "A Quiet Place", "Crazy Rich Asians", and "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" which won 10pts in their "Best Picture" de jour categories. Just goes to show, it pays to actually read the nominations before drafting. That goes double for those who drafted "Bohemian Rhapsody". Yikes.

In any case, the perfect score to hit tonight was 79. Here are the current standings (meaning both tonight's points + Golden Globes points):

1. Gloria = 114pts
2. Val = 112pts
3. Sarah = 108pts
4. Caileigh = 102pts
5. Llewyn = 101pts
6. Johno = 98pts
7. Giorge = 90pts
8. Yavin = 87pts
9. Bridgett = 80pts
10. Daniela = 77pts
11. Brandon = 74pts
12. Jacob = 68pts
13. Kdashpez = 66pts
13. Debbi = 66pts
15. Alicia (paddingtonlover) = 63pts
16. Amanda = 59pts
17. LDC = 50pts
18. Alfredo = 49pts
19. Ruby = 47pts
20. Colin = 46pts
21. Liz = 43pts
22. Melissa = 28pts

It’s almost draft time! Here’s a preview of the weekend ahead of us:

Most of the usual suspects will be back, but will they be better than ever? After the lukewarm response to “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”’s big win, will they continue to be major players? Reminder “Three Billboards” made a HUGE splash at the Globes last year, but fizzled our as the season went on. Probably safe to include them again, since the snub is only -1pt, but choose wisely.

Remember “best picture de jour” TRULY applies here, as there are several “best” categories here such as action film. If you’re just joining us for the first time this season, or if you had a lackluster Globes score, now is the time to make-up those points!

Toni Collette is nominated. Idk if she’ll win, I’m just saying thank god.

Finally on a trivial note, I tried to do events in the Barker Hangar time and time again. It’s such a cool venue but it’s such an expensive build. Peep the Chiavari chairs and the budget friendly linens on the tables during the event.

Best of luck!

Well that sure was the Golden Globes! We can always count on the HFPA to deliver. Deliver what, exactly? Depends on who you ask.

The big winner tonight was "Green Book" with 18 points. 70% of participants drafted it in their line-up, but how many of us have actually seen it? "Bohemian Rhapsody" was the second biggest earner with 13 points, which was also seemingly the dark horse as only 45% of participants drafted the Queen biopic. I think I can speak for many of us when I say what a SIGH of relief it was to see "Into the Spider-Verse" rack up an impressive 10 points tonight. Eat s**t, MCU! Kidding omg could you imagine?

Also worth noting that everybody received an easy 2 points with "A Star Is Born"'s best original song, though I'm sure most of us were expecting more from the Lady Gaga vehicle. On the flip side, absolutely NOBODY drafted "The Wife". Yikes! Big snubs across the board for "Blackkklansman" and "Black Panther", who many drafted but received a grand total of zero awards. Better luck next round?

Before I post the rankings, just a reminder that foreign films are NOT considered in this game, so if you're looking for your 10 points for "Roma", you're not going to have any. However you WILL receive the 5 points for the Best Director win. I'll be honest, this was a problem I didn't anticipate having...lo siento. Also I posted this game on LETTERBOXD so if you see names you don't recognize...they're from there. Wave hello!

AND THE RANKING IS ALSO FOLLOWS:

1. Val - 53pts

1. Llewyn - 53pts
3. Alfredo - 49pts
4. Ruby - 47pts
5. Colin - 46pts
5. Gloria - 46pts
7. Caileigh - 43pts
7. Sarah - 43pts
7. Liz - 43pts
10. Johno - 39pts
11. Giorge - 35pts
12. Brandon - 33pts
13. Melissa - 28pts
13. Alyssa - 28pts
15. Yavin - 27pts
16. Bridgett - 24pts
16. Tom - 24pts
16. Daniela - 24pts
19. Jacob - 23pts
20. Debbi - 17pts

Make some noise if you definitely drafted "Green Book" in your line-up, but you sure as hell aren't in any rush to go see it!

TIE BREAKER ANNOUNCEMENT!

So I figured a good tie breaker would be to calculate the total number of snubs across all categories, and determine which person would win based on the least amount of snubs.

The final results are:

Caileigh Buchanann: 6 snubs
Tom Caswell: 5 snubs

So congratulations to Tom, our inaugural winner! DM your email so I can send you your prize!

IT'S RESULTS DAY!
It would've been results night but after seeing Mark Hamill surprise people at the Chinese Theatre, I finished a bottle of wine to drown out the FOMO and passed out before I could tally everyone's score...

BUT ANYWAY. Helluva season. Predictably predictable with some pleasant surprises (Get OUT!!!). Shape of Water took it aaaaall the way home with a whopping 17 points. But who won the big 'un? It was a close one but here are the final results:

RANKING
1. Tom Caswell - 210
1. Caileigh Buchanan - 210
3. Sarah Griffith - 174
4. Debbi Elliott-Griffith - 172
5. Johno Faherty - 157
5. Gloria Palma - 157
7. Jacqueline Laguarta - 93
8. Carolina Treviño - 72
9. Elizabeth Passmore - 44

That's right. IT'S A MOTHER FU**IN' TIE!!! So I'll think of a fair and sincere tie breaker. In the meantime, enjoy awkwardly being on stage together while Jimmy Kimmel plays y'all off.

Thanks to everyone else who played along, and to all of us who thought Lady Bird would do much better than it actually did. We'll see y'all again next year, when Paddington 2 will no doubt take home the Best Picture win.

WHEW! That took too long (and I forgot) so we're officially NEVER doing those Guild award agains. Why is Award Season so LONG this year? Put the Oscars back in February again!

Anyway, the big winner this round was Shape of Water...Shape of Best Picture? We'll see soon enough. Get Out actually got out with an overall score of 10, and surprise! Wonder Woman won an award at the SAG awards which gave it 3 points this round. But nobody picked that film so moving on. Is it time to kick Lady Bird and Dunkirk out of the line-ups? Maybe! Here are the results:

RANKING
1. Tom Caswell - 161
2. Johno Faherty - 157
2. Caileigh Buchanan - 157
3. Gloria Palma - 128
4. Debbi Elliott-Griffith - 126
4. Sarah Griffith - 126
5. Jacqueline Laguarta - 93
6. Carolina Treviño - 72
7. Elizabeth Passmore - 44

02/28/2018

I'M BACK. Helluva round, let's never do the Guild awards again. Will be posting the main event in our line-up tonight - The Academy Awards(!!) - as well as the final tally.
