My corner took guests to France, where I created live watercolor portraits throughout the evening. 🇫🇷🎨

Such a beautiful concept, with every space telling a different part of their story and creating a completely unique experience for their guests.

261 portraits. One event. Every portrait completed and delivered. 🎨

For my recent Shaw Industries activation, I used my custom Guest Portrait System to manage a volume that would be impossible to complete entirely during event hours.

Guests were photographed and added to my portrait queue, I completed as many originals as possible live, and the remaining portraits were finished afterward in my studio and personally delivered to the organizers.

The system helped me keep every guest organized from photo capture to final fulfillment — while the artwork itself remained completely hand-painted.

261 individual portraits completed.

This is exactly why I built the system: to combine the personal experience of live art with a better way to serve large events.

Collaborative Live Art — Power in Partnership.

From the first brushstrokes to the final details, this painting was created as a shared experience with the Snapdragon community here in Maui.

Throughout the event, guests became part of the artwork by adding their own marks and fingerprints to the canvas. I then continued developing those contributions into the finished piece — transforming hundreds of individual moments into one unified tropical landscape, with the Snapdragon flame becoming the heart of the composition.

That is what I love most about collaborative live painting: the finished artwork carries much more than an image. It carries the participation, energy, conversations, and memories of everyone who helped create it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what gives a live wedding painting its human pulse.

After decades of painting, many technical decisions happen almost instinctively. But I never want skill to make me absent. I want that freedom to help me notice more - the couple, their families, the changing light, the atmosphere, and the small gestures that make a wedding feel alive.

In this new article, I reflect on why I paint freehand, how love becomes attention, the relationship between mastery and mindful flow, and why the history of how a painting was made becomes part of the artwork itself.

One of the ideas at the center of the piece is simple:

Presence is love.

And maybe my favorite line is:

The wedding ends. The painting continues.

For me, the human pulse of a live wedding painting begins with presence. Technique may become instinctive, but attention keeps me connected to the couple, the place, and the emotion of the day. I want the painting to carry not only how the wedding looked, but how it felt.
