Kathy Mere Art

Kathy Mere Art Kathy Mere is a Lafayette, Louisiana based Painter of Glimmers Kathy Briggs Mere enjoys working with a variety of visual media.

Her most current body of work entails the use of water-based media primarily, often with periodic slight focal point interests in collage. Historically, she chose a variety of media including but not limited to oil, oil pastels, latex paint, pencils and markers. Kathy’s art is colorful with deep themes reminiscent of movement and emotion, often with an asian flare. She hopes to emit a soulful reac

tion from the viewer, often leaning in to more joyful, peaceful and beautiful emotions. Kathy’s greatest influence was her Uncle, renowned painter and colorist, Lamar Briggs (b. 1935-2015). Kathy grew up with several of his paintings in her childhood home and would find herself lost within each of the compositions. As an adult, she often communicated with him about his vibrant art, technique and history. Uncle Lamar encouraged Kathy to continue her art and was uplifting in his support of her art passion. Uncle Lamar’s greatest lesson was to believe in herself. Kathy also took several years of oil painting lessons under the tutorship of local painter, Pat Soper. Pat taught Kathy oil techniques that have been invaluable to her. Through Pat’s classes, Kathy learned to do realism in her art, yet truly realized that her love of “splotchy and pixelated” art was firm. Pat’s greatest teaching to Kathy was to trust her instincts, but also to trust the process. Kathy has several Lafayette-based private collectors, yet she has given away most of her art to a variety of children’s charities or charities that help families. Kathy is not taking commissions at this time, but is working on several collections.

Artwalk last night at Basin Arts was phenomenal and I admit, I got a little misty-eyed as we walked about the LaPlace neighborhood singing Christmas carols, stopping for dancing Zydeco and receiving treats from neighbors along the route, watching people with their kids walk from their homes to join in the festivities. We walked from 5:30-6:30 and it was magical❤️ below video is from our zydeco lesson from a neighborhood resident❤️
Community. Kindness. Inclusion. THIS is the reason for the season in my world. My cup is full❤️ Basin Arts
