Well it was basically painting with the water from the falls…
Plein air painting is 20% painting and 80% standing in your driveway wondering what you forgot.

Paint? Check.
Brushes? Check.
Water? Hopefully.
Paper? Somewhere.
The one thing I actually need? Definitely still sitting on the kitchen table.

Every trip I swear I’m going to have a perfect packing system. Every trip I end up doing inventory in my head halfway down the road.

What’s the one thing you ALWAYS forget?

The more you create for approval, the less room you leave for curiosity.

Every time you stop to wonder if people will like it, you’re interrupting the very thing that makes your work unique. Creativity needs freedom, not permission.

Two things that have helped me:

• Make something that only you enjoy before thinking about whether anyone else will.
• Remember that the people who matter aren’t looking for perfect. They’re looking for something honest.
