“Trying to Standout in the Crowd”

A large flock of approximately one thousand white ibis roost each night, this time of year, in the dense cypress forest. Witnessing their huge numbers on the still gray trees looks like the tres are covered in snow.
For this image, my goal was to focus on one ibis. That sounds much easier than it is. Many of them are blocked by branches or fidgeting just before flight. I scanned the scene and found this guy in the top of an old tupelo stump and locked in. It sat patiently, which allowed me to get some sharp images, even in the darker minutes leading up to sunrise. I hope you like it!
