Fewer than 3% of youth who age out of foster care will ever earn a college degree. This spring, FIVE young adults at COMPASS are beating those odds. 💪🎓

These five young adults grew up in foster care, navigated some of the hardest transitions imaginable, and earned their degrees without the safety net many take for granted.

Foster care has an end date. The effects don't. 🧭

The challenges that come with growing up in foster care don't end when a young person turns 18. Gaps in education, the absence of a family safety net, and the weight of building a life with few resources and little guidance can have a profound impact lasting throughout adulthood.

Transition-age youth who've experienced foster care face some of the highest rates of housing instability, unemployment, and isolation of any population of young people in the country.

This National Foster Care Month we want to talk about what happens after. And what's possible when programs like COMPASS refuse to let young people face it alone. 💙

Young adults transitioning out of foster care face unique challenges, from navigating independence to balancing school, work, and often parenting. Social events like this give them a chance to relax, connect with peers, and build supportive relationships that make the journey a little easier.🫂

With great food, games, and community, it was a perfect reminder that encouragement and connection can be just as important as housing and job support. 🙌

Life can sometimes feel like a game, but for young adults exiting foster care, it's often played on hard mode. 🎲

To help out these young adults, COMPASS Programs recently transformed our Drop-In Center into a real-life board game where participants tackled adulting tasks in a fun, supportive environment! ✨

From scoring an apartment lease to budgeting food and insurance, these young adults had the chance to navigate life's challenges while honing essential skills to prepare for their futures. 🌟
