Come on Down to Spider Town! Super excited for this story with Ranger Rick to be out! ( ) 🦝

A 6-page spread introducing the younger generation to the town of La Junta’s annual tarantula festival which coincides with the annual mating season of the tarantulas that inhabit SE Colorado.

This issue came out right before this years festival (September 26th & 27th) so I had the opportunity to give copies to some of the people involved in-person this past weekend!

La Junta has become a place where people from all walks of life can come together with one common interest, celebrating the tarantula!

Collaborating with people who live in the town, researchers and people who care about celebrating tarantulas made this story possible!

A massive thanks to the Ranger Rick team ( ), Dr. Cara Shillington ( ) , , , and all the cool kids involved!

Not your typical Katydid, donning a spear on its head to ward off predators ⚔️ this one was found on a night hike in Tortuguero, Costa Rica. Katydids are found in many places around the world, but this one is unique to Central and South America.
