Donation-based ZIA Zoom Session! This Friday, 9/25, at 12 noon EDT I will reveal two new tangles, inspired by Dolly Parton. No specific project is planned, as this will be a casual, fun online “Tangle Reveal” event, something new I am trying. All donated funds will be given to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Suggested donation: $9.25; send the amount of your choice via PayPal to [email protected] along with your email address for the Zoom link. Simply bring something to tangle on and something to tangle with (a tile or a sketchbook or an index card or whatever, plus your favorite drawing implements).

To provide more context, this Friday, September 25, 2026, I would like to celebrate what is being declared as Dolly Parton Day (or 9-to-5 Day) by sharing two tangles that I have developed in honor of Dolly’s beautiful legacy of creativity, generosity, laughter, kindness, and positivity. These tangles fall into the category of Nomadz (free-floating fragments that exist indepenent of a grid or reticulum, a concept covered in Project Pack #30), and I came up with them spontaneously on August 25, just after I heard the news of Dolly’s passing. I’ve been wondering how/when to “release” them to the world, and this is what I have come up with, given the significance of Friday. Please note that it’s been a long time since I have taught anything online, so please be patient if there are glitches or snafoos. I’ll try to record it, but no guarantees.

The photograph, included for attention (since my tangles will not be revealed until Friday) was taken by my Dad in front of a mural in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. The names of the artists aren’t visible in the photo, but to give credit where credit is due: the mural was originally painted by Colton Valentine in 2019. In 2020 it was defaced. Colton Valentine does not live in the area to restore it himself, so it was restored by East Tennessee artist Megan Lingerfelt, who added the butterfly.

Greetings! It’s been a while since I have posted…thought you might want to know about an upcoming workshop I am teaching this Tuesday in Tellico Village. I call it “Tangled & Dangled.” We will learn to make the ornamental form to dangle, and tangle three tiles that will be attached the facets.

I’m really excited about this project! If you’re interested, there is still space available. You do not have to be a member of the Art Guild of Tellico Village in order to attend.

The cost of the workshop is $75, which includes all necessary supplies.

Good morning, and Happy IDOZ! 😃✍️
The International Day of Zentangle is today, and at 10am Eastern you can join tanglers around the world LIVE, tangling together in a YouTube Live event on the Zentangle channel. All you need is a 3.5” paper tike, a pen, a pencil, and a tortillon. Or, if you don’t have these specifically, all you need is something to tangle on, and something to tangle with, as I like to say.

Zentangle at the Dogwood Arts Festival!

I am beyond thrilled to be one of the makers selected for the Dogwood Arts Festival Maker Experience at World’s Fair Park this weekend! Saturday, April 26, I will be demonstrating Zentangle 3-5 pm as well as teaching a 1-hour Zentangle workshop 6-7pm. The demo is free, and the workshop is only $10!

This opportunity is organized by the Maker City and Knox Makers partnering with the Dogwood Arts Festival. How I love the creative vibe of our beloved Scruffy City!

Upcoming beginner’s class here in West Knoxville!

My first Zentangle® class of 2025 is coming right up! This Sunday afternoon, February 23, I will be teaching my entry-level Zentangle Foundations class, a perfect introduction to the fun and relaxing Zentangle Method of drawing beautiful nonobjective compositions.

I am so excited to be teaching my first local Zentangle classes of 2024 this Sunday, February 25, and the following Sunday, March 3 at the Arnstein Jewish Community Center on Deane Hill Drive. 🙌💖✍️
Each class is 1:00pm -3:00 pm; the cost is $35 for KJA members, and $45 for nonmember. Materials are included! You can take either or both sessions; they are geared toward beginners. Different tangles (patterns) will be taught, so if you sign up for both, you will learn new material.

Learn a relaxing, meditative way to create beautiful pen and ink drawings with local artist Amy Broady, a Certified Zentangle Teacher.
