As we wrap up on our long week here at Central States Fair and prepare for our journey east river for the South Dakota State Fair, we wanted to take some time to reflect on these 2 fairs in particular.
Providing production for fairs has been some of our longest consistent work. Monte started doing production at the state fair and central states fair over 25 years ago. Though he is not with us anymore, we carry on with the same passion and dedication he lead with.
Each stage at each fair has different needs. Our systems are not a “one size fits all”. We prepare each system with the gear that makes sense, and is most effective for the needs of each stage. We continue to update and evolve our systems over the years, but what doesn’t change is our commitment to connecting the artist with the audience.

Maybe our busiest day of the year. We have crews and gear running 4 stages in 3 cities.

In today’s , we are highlighting some of the events we supported during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Let’s roll back to Wednesday morning.
One of the strangest, but most comfortable things to do during the rally is be inside without a band. We provided all of the production support for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame 25th annual Hall of Fame breakfast. We provided audio, lighting, graphics, IMAG, and live-streaming including a red carpet pre-show.
At the same time, we had a team rocking out at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip with Stil Runnin for the Bikini Beach bike show.

Earlier this month we were on site at the Tri-County Fair, in Wishek, ND. As a small county fair, the scale of the events changed each day. There is not a “one size fits all” solution, and our systems are scalable to fit the needs of each event. Friday night was a grandstands show with 2 national touring bands, Saturday was some daytime entertainment, then 2 regional bands on a different stage. Finally, Sunday morning was a church service and an afternoon on an even different stage.

IMAG: (short for Image MAGnification) is a live video production technique used at live events so audience members far from the stage can clearly see facial expressions and details.
At a recent event, we had 4 hot mics on the session floor for delegates to address the room or the podium. We saw the opportunity and huge benefit of using IMAG for these microphones so that when someone was speaking, they would be seen by the whole room. While this wasn’t expected by the client in pre-production meetings, we saw the opportunity and placed a remote controlled camera on the front of the stage, and used presets so we could quickly recall to whichever microphone was being used at the time.

Picture this, is 4pm, your evening event is scheduled to start at 7pm, but the building is uninhabitable due to the smell from construction work during that day in another room. By 4:15 you make the call, we need to move elsewhere.
That’s where we come in. We send a van up to Spearfish, setup a small PA and some lights, and we are ready to go. No stress, just flexibility that leads to a successful event. As we unloaded the client said “this wouldn’t have been possible without Madison Sound”. We are happy to serve!

Another busy weekend for our team. We spent Thursday in Lemmon, SD for a great evening with Mark Wills for Lemmon Boss Cowman.
Then we drove up and around and over to Wishek, ND for their 100th Tri-County Fair, Wishek! The fair board put so much thought and effort into this to make it special, and it truly was. Friday was a grandstands concert with The Sweet & FireHouse, Saturday was the fair classics with all of the greats from the Midwest fair industry. Keith Raymond, Kevin Hall, TC Hatter, and Mike Walker, are all great entertainers and some of the best at what they do. We closed the evening with a beautiful sunset show from the fantastic Kat Perkins with her country roads show, then stretched into the wee hours with The Faster Horses. Sunday morning was the gospel music church service with Pam Linton and band, followed by Danielle Nowell’s Music.
Thank you Tri-County Fair, Wishek and Lemmon Boss Cowman for choosing to invest in your communities through live events and entertainment! You were both wonderful hosts.

Last week while at an event, the organizers planned to stream the Mt. Rushmore fireworks to the video screens at the venue, but plan A wasn’t working. Plan B wasn’t working either. So we jumped in with our Starlink system and made it happen.
Starlink is just one of the modern tools we carry with us to be prepared for anything.

What a weekend for the Madison Sound team!
Two teams, four stages, six show days — and every single one came together because of the incredible people who showed up ready to work. From overnight drives, load-in before sunrise to the last cable wrapped after the final encore, our team made it look easy, and sound great.

There’s something special about doing this kind of work as we’re celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Small town live events are a part of what makes this so fun. Getting to help bring people together on stages across our region this weekend, felt like a pretty good way to spend it.
Thanks to all the artists we work so closely with, you are all so kind. Brandon Jones, Rick Monroe, The Wilt Brothers Band, KC Hughes, Wade Hayes, The Dirt - 80's Hair Metal Experience
Thanks to the event organizers that make these events possible. Fort Pierre, South Dakota, Fallon County Fairgrounds, Jeep Beach, Jeep Freedom , Sturgis Buffalo Chip
