‘Asphalt Flashbacks’

i am gazing through slim slits along
asphalt sidewalks-
they are capturing subconscious
snapshots - flashbacks
wide eyes transition into LED
lights frantically searching for
the memory
the pivotal moment when I finally managed to
pull myself out of the
gutter
cut me, just once more
cut the tongue from inside of my mouth
silence these demons -
this pain is overwhelming
you comfort me with whiskey scented betrayal,
a needle filled with agony and a
rubber band -

i just want to be myself again
a volcanic eruption-
my own blood flows ceaselessly from the wounds
you have inflicted and I can not manage to look
away
i just want to be alive again
so please, I beg of you..
please remember me
because i am already beginning
to forget

if tomorrow our sky is
no longer
blue

just remember that there will be
moments
moments when the night completely
takes over;
you need to know that there will be
very
dark times

but,

when this happens, please, do not
be afraid

Instead, I ask that you take a moment to lie back
gently,
close those big brown eyes filled
with sorrow

& try to remember
please, just try to remember
