Saturday at the Chicago Scottish Games was probably one of the longest days I've endured in recent memory: Wake up at 6pm, get to the field by 8, perform at 9:21, play with massed bands at 7pm. Finish off with watching Scotland beat Haiti in the World Cup.
Between playing, we actually heard some fantastic performances. Inverary & District won first in Grade 1, but St Thomas Alumni brought their A-game too, complete with familiar faces who crushed it in solo performances at Winter Storm. Ulster Scottish snagged first in Grade 2 and is jetting off to Glasgow for worlds soon.
Grade 4 had 20 bands, including us. Scoring was nail-bitingly close beyond first place, but we still managed to squeeze in fifth.

Next up, July 18th in St Paul, Minnesota, where we'll be performing both the Medley and MSR at Macalester College. Check back here for more photos later...

We're here! Not only is he handsome, Rob and crew get our camp set up so we can chill and dodge the rain at the competition, while Mark books the hotels that are basically five-star mansions. (Ok,
maybe not quite, but they’re really pretty nice and convenient) Together, they're our personal comfort overlords, making sure we're cozy at all times. Thanks, guys!

I can’t think of a better way to start off a pipes and drums weekend than a concert by the top band in the world, Inverary & District. So inspiring (and maybe a little intimidating). Tomorrow we’ll get to hear them compete against the St Thomas Alumni band. Early rising in the morning- we play at 9:21. Hopefully no one in our band had Thai food for dinner…

The excitement is building for the Chicago Scottish Festival as we head into a big weekend: solos on Friday, followed by the main band competition on Saturday!

Getting a band ready for an event of this scale is a massive undertaking. From writing and refining scores for pipes, snares, bass and mid-section choreography to endless hours of practice, securing hotel rooms and setting up a camp; it’s a labor of love that all leads up to a few fleeting minutes on the field.

But looking behind the scenes, we know the effort is even greater for the organizers. Managing logistics for 60 bands, dancers, and athletes—plus coordinating judges, medical teams, vendors, and 2 sold-out concerts—is no small feat.

A big tip of the glengarry to the Chicago Scots, Jim Sim and the Midwest Pipe Band Association for their incredible work in making this event, the second largest in the world, happen. We’ll see you in Chicago! Let's DO THIS!!
