Before the Grammy nominations and Blues Music Awards piled up, Victor Wainwright was already turning heads on the LRBC stage. Piano players aren’t supposed to bring this much firepower, but Victor has never really followed the rules. (you should've seen his cooking demonstration on #44)

Glasses up! The Sailaway Toast means RELAX, the real world gets left at the dock. Every repeat offender (artists and cruisers alike) knows what comes next: a week of beautifully unhinged blues music; once-in-a-lifetime performances and collaborations that may never happen again. Let the magic begin.

In October 2012, LRBC GOAT Ronnie Baker Brooks brought Chicago blues straight to open water. Son of blues icon Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie built his own reputation with explosive live sets that never really stay confined to the stage — as this crowd clearly learned fast.

Ed Early didn’t need a spotlight to command a stage. A founding member of The Juke Jumpers and longtime torchbearer of traditional New Orleans trombone, he brought decades of brass, blues, and street-parade soul wherever he played. Captured here aboard LRBC in 2013.

R&B AND SOUL ICON CLARENCE CARTER PASSES AWAY AT 90

Clarence never sailed on the LRBC. He made some great records: Slip Away and the humorous Strokin'! Rest in Power to the Doctor of Soul.

c/o The Boogie Report:

Legendary soul singer, songwriter, and guitarist Clarence Carter has passed away. He was 90 years old.

The Montgomery, Alabama, native - a giant of the industry and a cornerstone of the Southern Soul and Blues movement - leaves behind an unparalleled legacy. Blind from birth, Carter transformed his personal challenges into a signature sound that bridged the gap between raw blues and polished R&B.

Carter's career, which spanned over six decades, was defined by his storytelling and his unmistakable, soulful delivery. He first gained national prominence with his 1968 classic "Slip Away" and followed it with the gut-wrenching, Grammy-winning ballad "Patches" in 1970.

To a new generation of fans, he became a cultural phenomenon with the 1985 anthem "Strokin’," a staple of Southern Soul radio and Juke Joints across the country.

"Clarence Carter didn't just sing songs; he told the truth about life, love, and the struggle. He was the heart of the Muscle Shoals sound and a true king of Southern Soul."
