From Rehearsals, backstage laughing, to stepping on stage and making magic. It was a phenomenal experience to be a part of the Symphonic Beats: Celebrating Women in Hip Hop event. I remember when I was first asked to be a part of this by DC. I felt so honored to have my poetry heard and loved enough to want to hear it again in a new capacity. I said yes, not knowing how my own experiences could deliver for an event like this, but when the pen dropped, the mic did too. I am especially grateful to have been partnered with EgypTrinity and create this piece together. We started with “well I dont know” and ended with a powerful piece that highlights unity in a world where we now see so much divisiveness. That was our piece alone. The coordination it took to create and build an event like this took talent, collaboration, and trust. I am so grateful to be apart of the Kalamazoo Community. It ain’t just a handful of talent here, it’s fruitful.
Thank you to all who made this event happen!
