Johnson, Vermont is a rural town nestled in the Green Mountains at the confluence of two rivers. Johnson is within commuting distance of Vermont’s two most important cities, Burlington and Montpelier. Despite that proximity, a substantial portion of the town’s residents live and work within Johnson itself. Diverse employment opportunities, range of affordable housing, cultural resources and four-season recreation afford the town’s residents an enviable quality of life.

June 18, 2026 Flooding Information:

8:50pm Update - Water levels on the Lamoille are currently at "Actionable" stage, meaning no serious flooding. There may be water in basements, partial water-covered roadways.

Emergency Management is monitoring water levels and risk of more serious flooding, this that is not expected at this time.

Tributaries to Gihon and the Lamoille are likely over banks do to high rain volumes, but the Lamoille and Gihon are not expected to result in a minor (as defined by NOAA) or higher flood event.

Please take precautions and never cross roadways covered by water.

This is only an indicator of flooding elsewhere, and visual monitoring is also in place through the night.

Town of Johnson Creates Task Force to Explore Options for Saving the Julian Scott House

The Johnson Selectboard has voted to establish the Johnson Municipal Task Force on the Future of the Julian Scott House, a new advisory group charged with investigating options to prevent the
demolition of the historic Julian Scott House.

The Task Force will research the building’s condition, explore preservation and reuse possibilities, identify funding opportunities, and gather community input. Its work will culminate in a set of
recommendations to the Selectboard later this year.

Individuals with experience or interest in historic preservation, construction, planning, finance, grant writing, or community engagement are encouraged to apply for membership.

The Julian Scott House is an important part of Johnson’s heritage, and the Selectboard is committed to ensuring that all feasible alternatives to demolition are thoroughly evaluated.

Applications to serve on the Task Force may be submitted to the Town Administrator at [email protected] or delivered to the Town Offices by July 1, 2026.
