Recycled Tin Can Hanging Planters

🧰 Materials Needed
Empty tin cans in various sizes
Acrylic paint in assorted colors
Paintbrushes
Paint pens or permanent markers
Jute twine, rope, or decorative cord
Small metal chains (optional)
Drill or hammer and nail
Scissors
Potting soil
Small plants, herbs, or succulents
Clear outdoor sealer (optional)
Decorative beads or charms (optional)

✨ How to Make It

Step 1: Clean the Cans

Wash the tin cans thoroughly and remove all labels and adhesive residue. Dry completely before decorating.

Step 2: Prepare Drainage Holes

Using a drill or hammer and nail, carefully create several drainage holes in the bottom of each can. This helps prevent overwatering.

Step 3: Paint the Base Colors

Apply a coat of acrylic paint to each can. Choose bright colors such as turquoise, yellow, red, blue, or green. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 4: Add Decorative Designs

Use paint pens or small brushes to create patterns such as flowers, dots, geometric shapes, or folk-art inspired designs.

Step 5: Seal the Surface

If the planters will be used outdoors, apply a clear protective sealer to help preserve the colors.

Step 6: Create Hanging Holes

Make two or four holes near the top rim of each can, evenly spaced around the planter.

Step 7: Attach the Hanging Supports

Thread jute twine, rope, or chains through the holes and tie secure knots. Make sure each planter hangs evenly.

Step 8: Fill with Soil

Add a small layer of pebbles if desired, then fill each can with quality potting soil.

Step 9: Plant Your Greenery

Carefully plant herbs, succulents, flowers, or trailing plants. Gently press the soil around the roots.
