People don’t talk enough about the quiet side of being a Grandma.
They see the laughter. The holidays. The warm hugs and proud smiles. But they don’t always see the late-night thoughts. The silent prayers whispered into the dark. The way your heart tightens just a little when the phone rings too late.
Loving a grandchild doesn’t come without worry. It comes with a soft, steady concern that never fully leaves. Not because you doubt them — but because the world can be unpredictable. And when your heart lives outside your body, walking around in someone else’s life, you feel everything more deeply.
I’ve learned that this kind of worry is just another form of love.
It’s checking the weather before they travel.
It’s sending “Drive safe” texts.
It’s watching the news and quietly hoping their names are never part of a headline.
Grandmas feel it too.
We carry hope and concern in the same breath — loving fiercely, trusting deeply, and always, always wanting them safe.
