🎤 𝗦𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹

Some artists find their calling late in life. For Angel Garcia—better known as Slurry Angel—the seeds were planted before he could even tie his shoes. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, Angel’s first exposure to English came not from schoolbooks, but from music. His uncle, one of the first in the family to embrace English, introduced him to rap and rock.

At just four years old, Angel was already hooked. By five, he could spit Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady word-for-word, his young voice capturing rhythms and cadences that left his parents in awe—even if they didn’t yet understand the words. That early discovery of rap wasn’t just entertainment; it was the beginning of a lifelong dialogue between culture, language, and identity.

🎶 A Father’s Influence and Resistance

Angel’s father cast a long shadow over his artistic journey. In his youth, his dad had been a singer, performing at weddings and quinceañeras—bringing life to celebrations with music and presence. Angel recalls watching grainy VHS tapes of those performances—his father on stage, commanding a crowd, igniting energy with every note.

It was inspiring. It was also complicated.
When Angel chose rap instead of singing, support turned into resistance. His father, who had struggled to break into the industry himself, saw only failure in that path. Rap, with its explicit language and raw edge, was unacceptable in a Catholic-Christian household. Angel’s father tried to steer him away from it.

But instead of killing the dream, the opposition only sharpened Angel’s resolve. “If y’all aren’t going to support me,” he thought, “I’m going to make sure I can find someone who will.” That defiance became a cornerstone of his identity, echoing in the rebellious themes that fuel his music today.

🧠 A Home Among Creatives

For years, Angel pushed forward without support. Then he discovered SOS Productions, a community that gave him what family could not—acceptance and encouragement. While his parents wanted him to abandon rap, his peers at SOS recognized his gift. They pushed him to keep going, to share his voice, to use music as both outlet and weapon.

With their support, Angel began to put more of himself into his work. He released an album, celebrated with a release party at The Altar, and cemented himself as part of a growing network of independent artists determined to lift each other up.

Still, Angel admits that self-promotion remains one of his biggest challenges. “I really don’t know how to promote myself,” he said. The doubts his father planted linger in the back of his mind. But the fire to create—and the responsibility he feels to inspire others—keeps him moving forward.

🔥 The Rebel’s Sound

Angel’s music isn’t just entertainment—it’s rebellion. His lyrics speak to clashes with family, rejection of authority, and criticism of industries that manipulate the masses. He weaves stories of personal struggle into broader themes about resisting conformity and finding power in passion.

But rebellion, for Angel, isn’t nihilistic—it’s hopeful. He wants his music to encourage others who are told their dreams don’t matter.
“I’m trying to reach the people in the same struggles I was in,” he explained. “Surrounded by family, media, corporations telling them no. I want to inspire them to push forward anyway.”

🎧 Inspirations and Influences

Angel’s creative compass pulls from two worlds. In rap, NF is one of his strongest influences—NF’s emphasis on emotional honesty and legacy resonates deeply. Eminem, Ice Cube, and Snoop Dogg also serve as proof that persistence can turn rejection into triumph.

From the Spanish-speaking world, Angel looks to Juanes, Enrique Iglesias, and Selena. He admires how Selena, despite not being fluent in Spanish at first, embraced the language to connect with her roots. Angel wants to follow a similar path—his music today is primarily in English, but he’s increasingly weaving Spanish into his lyrics, building bridges between his heritage and his art.

🕊️ Beyond the Music: Legacy and Vision

Fame isn’t Angel’s goal. His sights are set higher and deeper—on family, security, and legacy.
“I just want to be able to provide for my family years after I’m gone,” he said. For him, music is both passion and investment—a way to create royalties that sustain future generations.

That vision sets him apart. He isn’t chasing overnight virality—he’s building something lasting, something that will echo beyond his lifetime.

💬 A Message to the Misunderstood

When asked who his music is meant for, Angel didn’t point to a demographic or market. Instead, he spoke to a shared experience—those who feel pushed away from their dreams. His songs are for anyone told “you can’t” when their soul says “you must.”

“If I’m able to inspire just one person to keep their passion alive, I feel like I’ve succeeded in life.”

That statement reveals the heart of his artistry. Slurry Angel isn’t just a rapper—he’s a reminder that art thrives in defiance, that passion outlives resistance, and that one voice—honest, rebellious, and unapologetic—can inspire many.

Roots of a Journey

Every artist has a spark that sets their story in motion. For Psy Kotik, that spark didn’t come from a polished stage or industry connection—it came from a challenge. What started as a dare evolved into a calling, shaping an artist whose music speaks to raw honesty and underground grit.

Early Steps

Before stepping into rap, Psy Kotik’s first creative outlet was drumming with the band False Tyrant, where he helped lay the foundation for the group’s only recorded track, Hollow. But it was later, at 23, that he truly found his direction. A $50 bet challenged him to write his first rap verse—a moment that shifted his path and set him on course toward hip-hop.

That late start gave Psy Kotik something many overlook: perspective. His entry into rap wasn’t about chasing trends; it was about proving himself and discovering a new form of expression.

A Distinct Sound

Psy Kotik’s music is both unapologetically raw and emotionally vulnerable. His catalog reflects a willingness to put every part of himself into the work, whether it’s pain, resilience, or unfiltered honesty.

Mother May I — a deeply personal track released silently on his mother’s birthday, exploring fractured relationships and the feeling of not being wanted.

Succu-B**** — a darker, conceptual piece that pushes boundaries with its raw energy and unapologetic tone.

His style blends grit with thoughtfulness, moving fluidly between aggression and reflection. It’s music built not for mass consumption, but for those who resonate with authenticity.

Philosophy and Identity

For Psy Kotik, music isn’t about pleasing everyone. It’s about speaking directly to those who need it most. He doesn’t aim to create universal anthems—he crafts honest stories that connect with listeners who find themselves in his words.

Resilience in the Underground

The road hasn’t been easy. Opportunities for underground artists in small communities are scarce, and recognition often comes slowly. Yet these challenges haven’t discouraged Psy Kotik—they’ve fueled him. Rather than waiting for validation, he continues building, creating, and carving his own space in the scene.

Looking Ahead

The future for Psy Kotik is rooted in growth, authenticity, and connection. He’s not chasing shortcuts or mainstream formulas. Instead, he’s focused on projects that highlight overlooked voices, collaborations that push creative boundaries, and music that continues to carry truth.

Closing Words

Psy Kotik’s story is one of transformation, resilience, and underground determination. His music isn’t polished for mass approval—it’s unfiltered, raw, and honest, created for the people who truly feel it.

He sums it up best himself:
“I don’t make music for everyone. I make it for the people who feel it, the ones who need it. If it reaches them, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”

✨ Local Talent Highlight: Roach ✨

🔥 A Voice Born From Resilience

Every community has voices that rise out of struggle and turn hardship into art. Today’s spotlight shines on Roach, an artist whose story is as raw and powerful as the verses he delivers. His journey through loss, resilience, and discovery has shaped a voice that doesn’t just entertain—it connects, heals, and inspires.

🎶 Early Roots in Music

Music has always been at the center of Roach’s life. Growing up as the youngest in a family that included two sets of twins, he was surrounded by a constant mix of genres. His father introduced him to heavy metal and hip-hop, his mother brought classics and country into the home, and his sister leaned toward pop culture. This variety left Roach with a wide-ranging appreciation for sound, from Black Label Society, Kid Cudi, and Blacktop Mojo, to countless others that helped shape his evolving taste.

Even as a child, Roach was fascinated by instruments. Photos still exist of him, barely a toddler in diapers, clutching a guitar. Though lessons came and went, his love for music never faded. Still, he remained a shy kid—terrified to perform at church, hesitant to let his voice be heard. That fear only made his later breakthroughs all the more powerful.

🚀 Finding His Path

The turning point came when a friend, Danni Darkoh, introduced him to a collective of like-minded creatives. Roach witnessed a professional recording session for the first time while they worked on the song Remember Me. Something clicked. Within a week, he invested nearly $2,000 into music equipment. That moment wasn’t just a purchase—it was a commitment to himself and his art.

Since then, Roach has thrown himself into every corner of the process: songwriting, engineering, videography, and photography. The group around him operates like a self-sufficient creative family, building music videos with GoPros, rigged green screens, and shared determination. Together, they’ve learned to make the most of limited resources and turn passion into product.

🎤 Projects and Discography

Roach’s catalog is as diverse as the life experiences that fuel it:

Test of Time Mixtape – his earliest experiment, where he taught himself the fundamentals of recording.

Soulful Sounds – an intimate look into grief, loss, and depression. An album that spoke not just to personal struggles but universal emotions.

Broken Glass & Blowin’ Grass – a sharper, bar-for-bar project showcasing growth in lyrical ability and production skill.

Currently, he’s balancing both solo and collaborative projects, including new material with fellow artist Nikko Dellena (known as Young Dellena). Each release marks another step forward in refining his voice and expanding his reach.

🎧 Style and Influences

Roach’s music refuses to be boxed into one sound. His harder tracks hit with the intensity of metal and rap, while his more melodic songs invite reflection, asking listeners to pause and think deeply.

Hip-Hop Influences: Triple One (Australia), whose blend of rap and melody helped inspire Roach’s own versatility.

Country Influences: Outlaw country artists like Mickey Lamantia, Cody Jinks, and Jamey Johnson.

Core Philosophy: Music as a universal language that unites people across cultures, faiths, and backgrounds.

Whether aggressive or mellow, each track comes from the same place—an honest expression of what he’s lived, what he’s lost, and what he refuses to give up on.

💪 Personal Struggles, Powerful Motivation

Behind the music is a story of resilience. Roach spent much of his childhood caring for his twin brother, who was born with cerebral palsy and could never walk or talk. Music was one of the few things that made his brother smile, proving to Roach early on that sound could heal and communicate what words couldn’t.

His teenage years brought hardship of another kind—years of abuse from a stepfather. Those experiences left deep scars but also shaped the strong moral compass and empathy that now flow through his music.

Most of all, Roach carries the weight of family loss. His mother, who still works tirelessly in a factory, has endured the deaths of her husband and two sons. Roach’s drive to succeed is rooted in giving her the peace and life she deserves.

🌱 Identity and Message

Roach began under the name TK, representing a younger version of himself still searching for direction. His evolution into “Roach” reflects transformation and survival. Just as a roach persists no matter the environment, so has he.

At the heart of his music lies one message: no matter how dark life gets, there is always something better on the other side. He reminds listeners to tell themselves daily that something wonderful is coming. For him, it’s not just lyrics—it’s a philosophy that carried him through grief, depression, and doubt.

🛠️ Beyond the Stage

Outside of music, Roach is a builder in every sense. He works in construction and carpentry, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. From custom closets to reclaimed wood projects, he takes pride in craftsmanship and creation. He even dreams of pairing his work life with his art, eyeing potential sponsorships and creative content that bridges both worlds.

🔮 Looking Forward

Roach isn’t chasing fame. He’s chasing truth, connection, and the chance to give back to the people who matter most. His circle of friends—artists who became family—keep him grounded, while his vision of a better life for his mother keeps him pushing forward.

His journey is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: Roach’s voice will not be overlooked.

💬 Closing Words from Roach

“Regardless of how hard it gets, there’s always something better on the other side. I’ve been through hell and high water, but I tell myself every day that something wonderful will happen. Words have power. Keep believing.”

From Marching Band Roots to Building a Movement

Meet Nikko Dellena, aka Young Dellena, a multi-talented artist, engineer, and founder of SOS Productions and The Alter—a free-genre venue and collective built on passion, creativity, and community.

Young Dellena’s journey started in middle school, when he traded in football for marching band. Picking up clarinet and later bass clarinet, he learned to read and write music while sharpening his natural ear for instruments. By high school, he was producing his first homemade CD and teaching himself guitar, bass, and drums.

“I’ve always had the ear for music—I can pick something up and figure it out. For me, it’s always been about the love.”

That love for sound eventually led him to set up his own studio. What began as a trailer-turned-recording space grew into SOS (Saviors of Sound), and from there into The Alter—a grassroots venue and production company that has now been running shows for seven years. Located off County Road 70, The Alter has hosted everything from hip hop to comedy to juggling—providing space for artists whose work doesn’t always fit neatly into bars, restaurants, or city festivals.

🎶 About the Sound
Young Dellena’s music sits under the umbrella of alternative hip hop—a constantly shifting blend of gritty underground, melodic, and experimental influences. “I try to be versatile with it,” he explains. “It just depends on what the song’s asking for.” He’s performed for both underground crowds and city events in Jacksonville and Piedmont, always keeping his style fluid and true to his vision.

Currently, he’s working on two major projects:

A collaborative feature album with local artists.

A solo project under his alter ego Frank, pushing a darker, more aggressive underground sound.

🎤 About the Venue – The Alter
1187 County Road 70 has become more than a location—it’s a hub for artists who need a stage outside the mainstream. Over seven years, The Alter has hosted countless shows without a single fight, and the only police visits have been for cars parked on the roadside. It’s a true testament to the love and respect that fuels the community.

“We’re not just about music—it’s any form of art. If you want to juggle, do comedy, whatever it is, we welcome it here. This is a place for artists who need a space to express what doesn’t fit into the mainstream.”

🔥 Why Young Dellena Matters
Young Dellena isn’t just an artist—he’s a builder. He’s engineered tracks for others, created a home for underground talent, and continues to push his own sound forward. In his own words:

“It’s all about the love.”

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

Meet Apricity — a high-energy alternative rock band making waves in Calhoun County and beyond with a sound that’s all their own. Their story is built on friendship, family, and a shared love of music that refuses to blend into the background.

The band’s name, meaning “the warmth of the sun in winter,” perfectly captures their vibe — a rare, welcome burst of energy in the local music scene.

Frontman Ryan Erwin grew up surrounded by music thanks to his father, a touring musician in the 80s and 90s. After years of playing on the road, Ryan stepped away to focus on his career and family — but the itch to perform never left. When he decided to form his first band as leader, he sought out players who shared his vision for fun, unapologetic rock.

Eddie Daurrelle, a lifelong guitarist from South Florida, first met Ryan while working at Honda. The two bonded over music, and when Ryan put the call out for bandmates, Eddie jumped in. His love for 90s rock and effortless riffs helped shape Apricity’s sound.

Ryan’s younger brother, Josh Erwin, brought in smooth, driving bass lines and a natural sibling chemistry that fuels the band’s tight rhythm section.

Shawn Cunningham — the youngest member — rounded out the lineup with energy and precision after impressing the band before he even auditioned.

Right now, Apricity is focused entirely on writing and recording their original songs. Every rehearsal is a step toward their debut EP, which they plan to release soon. Their style blends the grit and emotion of 90s alternative with their own raw edge, capturing the excitement of rock without over-polishing the final product.

Apricity has already made their mark on local stages, performing at venues Sinclair Social, Coldwater Mountain Brewpub, and Darkhorse. They’ve also got a packed calendar of upcoming shows, including:

Aug 29 — Maggie Myers w/ Knight (Huntsville)

Sept 13 — Sinclair Social (Anniston)

Oct 4 — Fairway Social (Birmingham)

Oct 18 — Comedy Night & Live Music After at Sinclair Social (Anniston)

Nov 1 — Darkhorse

🎸 Band Members

Ryan Erwin — Vocals, Guitar
“I was born into music,” Ryan says. His dad’s career gave him an early start, first on drums at age six, then on guitar at fourteen. After years touring, Ryan took a long break to focus on his engineering career and family. But he couldn’t shake the urge to create. “I wanted to play what I actually listen to, not what everyone else around here was playing.” He leads Apricity with a vision for keeping the music raw, fun, and honest.

Eddie Daurrelle — Lead Guitar
“The guitar’s been in my hands for as long as I can remember,” Eddie says. Growing up in South Florida, he started playing seriously at twelve and never stopped. He’s played in countless bands over the decades but admits Apricity feels different: “After we play, I’m on such a high — it lasts for days.” Eddie’s influences include Nirvana, Candlebox, and Alice in Chains, and his melodic yet gritty leads give Apricity much of its identity.

Josh Erwin — Bass, Vocals
Josh brings more than just bass lines — he brings a natural chemistry with his brother that only years of playing together can create. “We’ve been jamming since we were kids,” Josh says. His style locks perfectly with Shawn’s drumming, laying a solid foundation for the band’s evolving originals.

Shawn Cunningham — Drums, Vocals
“I started drumming at eight and have been hooked ever since,” Shawn says. Inspired by drummers like Dave Grohl, Stewart Copeland, and Danny Carey, he developed a style fueled by passion and energy.
When he saw Apricity looking for a drummer on Facebook, he jumped at the chance. “During the interview I knew right away this was the group I wanted to rock with.” Now, Shawn is excited to help build Apricity’s sound and show the community what they’ve got.

✨ Local Talent Highlight: Flossy Mae Candies ✨

Sometimes, the sweetest ideas are born at the most unexpected moments — like a spark at a rodeo.

That’s how it began for this husband-and-wife team, with a simple cotton candy machine handed down from his grandfather. What started as a fun side hustle turned into a full-blown sugar-fueled passion. After a year of spinning floss, they took a leap and dove into the colorful world of freeze-dried candy — and that's when things really took off.

What makes Flossy Mae Candies stand out isn’t just the flavor — it’s the creativity. Think crunchy Skittles, airy Nerd Clusters, freeze-dried Fruit Roll-Ups, and even bold, unexpected twists like pickle-flavored goodies, peanuts, and pecan brittle. Whether you have a sweet tooth or love something salty, there’s something for everyone. It’s more than candy — it’s edible nostalgia, crafted with pride and shared at community events across the region.

Flossy Mae Candies doesn’t just make treats — they turn familiar flavors into something brand new, using innovation, love for local tradition, and a touch of playful imagination.

✨ 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬✨

From Grounded Gamer to Guitar-Slinging Prodigy

Meet Chandler Ayers, a passionate and versatile musician whose story began in an unexpected way—after getting grounded from video games. What started as a punishment turned into a lifelong passion. When his PlayStation was taken away after getting his first bad grade, Chandler picked up a dusty guitar in the corner of his room… and never put it down.

“I used to be a big Call of Duty nerd, but that guitar sat there until I had nothing else to do—so I started grinding.”

Inspired by artists like John Mayer, the first song that truly hooked him was "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room". From that moment, Chandler dove into the technical depths of music theory and performance, developing both his voice and instrumental chops.

By age 16, he was playing his first gigs—starting in a Boaz pizza parlor called Yaya’s—with gear he bought and paid off within a month thanks to the gigs it helped him land. Since then, he’s chased every opportunity with passion and grit, including a run on American Idol, where he made it through the first round among thousands of competitors.

“It really put into perspective just how much talent is out there—but my parents always pushed me. My mom even surprised me with the Idol audition.”

Chandler’s music today spans genres and mediums:

🎤 Solo pop project + acoustic versions for raw, intimate listening

🌀 Psychedelic rock jam band roots, including performances at venues like Saturn (Birmingham)

🎮 Video game soundtracks for indie developers

🎧 Rap and instrumental production for other local artists

Whether it’s producing beats, recording EPs, or watching a kid dance to his music, Chandler finds purpose in connection.

“I don’t care if nobody tips me. But if a kid starts dancing? That makes my whole show.”

Currently working on a dual-release EP (produced + acoustic versions), Chandler expects to drop it by the end of the year. In the meantime, he continues performing weekly, chasing new collaborations, and offering graphic design and production help to fellow artists.

Fun Fact: Chandler’s a full-on music nerd—he even finds beauty in old 8-bit Nintendo game soundtracks.
