โWhat a run! Thank you to everyone who made Disney's The Lion King Jr. camp such a beautiful success!
Six weeks of rehearsals, six weeks of laughter, growth, and pure heart, all leading up to two performances our community won't forget. To every young performer on that stage: you brought so much joy and talent to this production, and we are endlessly proud of you.
This show was a true partnership from start to finish. Huge thanks to the North Florida School of Special Education and to Stacy Santiago for the vision and heart behind this camp. To Jack Davis, Director, Dawn Dixon, Assistant Director, Tyler Joy, Technical Director, and our tech students for bringing this production to life technically, and to Chris Milligan and Rodney Holmes, Executive Directors at Greenlight Theatre Company, thank you for the incredible sets, costumes, leadership, and creative spirit you poured into this.
We were especially honored to welcome Robert Gilmore, Choir Director at Nelson Mandela University, and Mninawa Mangweni with his company Qhama Africa, all the way from Gqeberha, South Africa. The time they spent with our students, including a virtual drumming class connecting our young performers with teaching artists across the ocean, was an incredible cultural exchange. It reminded all of us why the arts matter: they build bridges between people, across cities, cultures, and continents.
Now stretching from Jacksonville to Gqeberha, we see this as the beginning of an extended family, and we're grateful for every relationship that made this exchange possible. This is what it looks like when communities choose to grow together.
To every parent, teacher, and supporter who filled those seats on July 24th and 25th, thank you for showing up for these kids. And to the cast, you were extraordinary.
We're so thankful to have been part of this, and we can't wait to see where this family takes us next.โ
