A week of fruits & veggies in different mediums!

I’m currently participating in an art challenge where we do a fruit or veggie a day for all of April (check veryberrydraws on IG!) I’m using a spinner wheel to randomly decide what medium I’ll be using each day!

- Carrots: Soft Pastels
- Pomelo: Gouache Paints
- Dragon Fruit: Acrylic Inks
- Physalis: Digital
- Watermelon: Neocolors II
- Banana: Acrylic Paints

A tonal study done with PanPastels!

I have times where I struggle to make art — every line I make looks horrible & every idea I have flops. When this happens, I get scared that maybe I forgot how to make art & will never be able to do it again.

But then I pull myself out of the rut & realize how silly that fear was. 😅

Bad days will happen. But it’s only temporary.

Had a sketchbook session today! ✨

Something I’ve been doing lately while sketching animals is doing some research on them! Here are some things I learned about this big guy, the Cassowary.

✨ Native to Australia, New Guinea & nearby islands.
✨ At average, they grow to be 4-5.6 feet tall & the females can weigh up to 167 lbs. This makes them the second biggest bird, after the Ostrich.
✨ They can jump more than 5 ft high, deliver strong kicks and run up to 30 mph.
✨ Males are primary caregivers; sitting on eggs for about 50 days & tending to the chicks for around 9 months after hatching.
✨ The Cassowary is one of the few species of birds to have killed humans. However, unprovoked they are fairly shy & peaceful.

Happy Penguin Awareness Day from this little Piplup!

& of course, happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! ✨

Penguin Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the world’s dwindling numbers of wild penguins. Global warming has played a huge part, causing penguin habitats to become unsustainable for these flightless birds.

& the African Penguin, a native to the coasts of South Africa and Namibia, have lost 50% of their population in the past 50 years mainly due to human activities like overfishing, habitat destruction and oil spills.

Some ✨fun facts✨:
- Explorers originally called penguins “strange geese.”
- They can swim over 10 mph & dive down over 800 feet.
- Some species mate for life & couples can locate each other with distinct calls.
