Sasser, Music & Lyrics by Charles Vincent Burwell. CUBAMOR follows two American graduate students, Lazaro and Zoe, and two Cubans, Maria and Renato, as the Americans visit Cuba on a ten-week university sponsored “goodwill tour.”
Lazaro is a young drummer, a brash product of the hip-hop generation. Zoe is a political studies major, and knows everything there is to know about Cuba, because she rea
d it in a book. Maria is a former ballet dancer for Ballet Nacional de Cuba, whose career was sidelined by an injury. She now works as a customs official, watching foreigners come and go freely from her country while she must stay. Her cousin Renato is a struggling musician, and also a jinetero, or hustler, who seduces tourists to makes ends meet. All harbor a secret pain, and are running from an aspect of their lives.
