Sondra (Alto Sax)
First Year in the Band: 2012
1. What does being a part of the Circle City Sidewalk Stompers mean to you?
"I absolutely love this band! It's the perfect blend of incredible musicianship and pure energy. Where else can you experience such amazing choreography and stunts while still maintaining the high-caliber musicianship you'd expect from a top-tier big band? It's just fantastic!"
2. What inspired you to start playing your instrument(s)?
"The high school band came to my elementary school to let us try out instruments. In 4th grade, I was eager to join, but my dad told me I could only do so if I quit Tae Kwon Do—something he thought I'd never do. So obviously, I worked hard to earn my black belt as fast as possible, told him I’d completed everything I needed to—and asked for a saxophone!"
3. What advice would you want to give a young musician about continuing their love for music?
"I’d tell them to keep the passion alive by staying curious and open to new experiences. Make time for the fun side of music! Don't be afraid to play for yourself, jam with friends, or just listen to music that makes you feel something. It’s easy to get caught up in practice and perfection, but at the end of the day, music is about expressing yourself and enjoying the journey. And it’s okay to hit roadblocks or face challenges; every musician goes through those moments. The key is to stay connected to why you started in the first place."
4. What's the most memorable performance you've had with the band, and why?
"I always loved performing at the San Diego County Fair! The fair is always buzzing with people, all there to have fun, and SO excited to see us! That vibe is contagious!"
5. What's the biggest difference between this band and any other you've played in?
"Mmmm, yeah....literally can't think of anything...🤡"
