30 years of the Kent State University Gospel Choir!! 💙💛

It was a honor to come home to KSU last Thursday to celebrate this landmark. My years of conducting this group left an unforgettable impact on my life, career, and connection with gospel music. It also connected me to my dear brother, Professor Rodney Hubbard, who has continued to lead KSUGC with great brilliance and passion. God has certainly purposed him for this work!

Thank you to my brother, the Hubbard family, and the choir for how intentionally you honored and celebrated all of us. From sharing the stage to direct and sing, to celebrating Dr. Angotti’s vision as the founding director, to singing “Total Praise” with our friends and family — it was a night to be forever remembered.

Together…We Rose!

The DePauw Choirs had a fantastic spring choral concert this past Sunday. Congratulations to all of our choristers, soloists, and our two student conductors, Taylor and Evan.

A special thanks to the DePauw Orchestra, and all of our featured instrumentalists on percussion, piano, oboe!

Thanks to Ha Chu for capturing and promoting the choirs for this concert!

A TREMENDOUS thanks to our collaborative pianists, Claudia and Natalia! Your support is critical to what we do.

Thanks to our composers for the gift of your music, including Richard Smallwood, J. S. Bach, Dr. Ysaÿe Barnwell, B. E. Boykin, Dr. Diane White-Clayton, Sydney Guillaume, Jocelyn Hagen, Dr. Rosephanye Powell, Eric Whitacre, and Dr. Khyle Wooten.

Finally, congrats to our DePauw Choir seniors! Thank you for leaving your imprint on the choral program.

(Last slide: enjoy the Chamber Singers’ pre-concert remix of “Loch Lomond”.)

with the DePauw Choirs!

I was inspired by Dr. to find intentional song transitions between pieces for storytelling and sequencing. “Oye” into “Kwangena Thina Bo” was one of many we planned during our London and Paris choir tour. It involved adding a key change, which did fabulously!

Transitions can be challenging…but with intention, they can also be triumphant. 💡
