It's hard to make a man understand something when his salary depends upon him not understanding it!
It's only lobster fishers on here claiming the science is wrong, and the same old undermining of science that holds us all back. These are the same people who say they have never witnessed a right whale while fishing and also claim their gear has never entangled a whale or a Leatherback sea turtle. I guess the whales and turtles leap over Maine & Mass’s waters that contain thousands of end lines! Even with crystal-clear proof, since newer regulations finally required state gear marking.
It's absolutely ridiculous that we are having to fight to keep a species from going extinct so we can eat lobster and crab! The fact that over 20 humpback whales and right whales are currently suffering tremendous pain, starving, and freezing to death right now because they are currently entangled in lobster and crab trap gear should be reason enough to implement better fishing practices, you know, like Canada is doing.
Give it up! Don't buy it! Wait until the US gets its senses back and implements gear that is proven to allow lobster and crab to be caught without entanglement!
Why is Canada so far ahead of the US with regulations and selling whale-safe lobster? Why did Seafood Watch remove lobster from the sustainable seafood list? Why has the US stunned itself into idiocy? Greed and ignorance, and it's sickening! We are better than this!
