Hey creative cousin. We are honored to announce our 2026 Artist Residency knowledge partners.

Annually, our residency works to bring together artists, entrepreneurs, researchers and cultural practitioners to help tattoo artists get out the shop, get in the field—and get their business together.

But these aren’t lectures. They’re conversations built around questions every working artist should be asking:

If the revolution will not be televised. The recolution is here were a social media platform … we’d be one of em! (keep reading 👇🏾)

The trend these days is to collect info … just to have it. Rarely do people apply it - and especially common to do so without mentorship. It’s a very poor comsumption practice.

And here, we’re not collecting information for consumption.
We are building knowledge for continuation.

So … If Gill Scott Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. The Revolution Is Here.” were a social media platform, BTA would be one of ’em.

The right information in the wrong hands can become extraction, appropriation, or another opportunity for somebody else to tell our story.

So as we recover our history, take back our narrative, and reclaim tattoo as rightfully part of Black culture, we’re intentional about who has access to that knowledge and what happens with it.

✨ Access follows participation. ✨

Our residency cohort, board, and active research partners retain access because they are actively contributing to the work. This helps ensure our knowledge isn’t simply being collected—it is being studied, applied, expanded upon, and used to further the mission.

We hope this explanation helps.
