Netflix is cutting about 1,000 jobs β roughly 6% of its global workforce β in its biggest layoff round since 2022, and parting ways with chief content officer Bela Bajaria in the same week.
The cuts, announced to employees Wednesday in an email from co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos, fall mostly on product, technology, legal and HR teams. Bajaria, who spent a decade at the company overseeing a content budget of around $20 billion behind hits like Squid Game and Wednesday, will be succeeded by Peter Rice, the former 21st Century Fox and Disney executive.
The shake-up comes as viewer engagement slows, the stock sits about 40% lower than a year ago, and the company lost this year's Warner Bros. Discovery bidding war. Leadership frames the moves as prioritizing high-impact areas, with third-quarter earnings due Oct 20.
