Ice cream still life anyone?! Food plays a big part in our existence and well as our social and cultural lifestyles. So it's no wonder that the painting of food in art is seen in many cultures all throughout history and the present day. Recently at Creative Fingers we jumped in on the trend. Check out these amazing pieces by Ellen, Audrey, Madelyn, and Mya!

A huge THANK YOU to PreSchool Parents for choosing Creative Fingers as one of their Spring field trip sites. What a wonderful bunch of kids! We created Frida Kahlo shrines as a reminder to always use our imagination in difficult times!
Illustrator Chris Van Allsburg is best known for picture books like The Polar Express and Jumanji. Recently, students here at Creative Fingers were tasked with creating a sequel to Van Allsburg's book, Two Bad Ants, and the results were spectacular! Here is just one example from Creative Fingers artist Alex!
Absolutely love that Mya's succulent matches the color of her hair! This beautiful piece is acrylic on canvas and was painted from the wide array of plants on display in the studio. It's always fascinating to put out new objects and see what creative creations they inspire!

Recently, we studied the work of Alexander Calder, who was primarily known for his unusual and kinetic sculptures. We specifically focused on a piece known as Cirque Calder, which renders a 3D model of a circus primarily using wire. This creative and dramatic piece was made by Parker! It's always wonderful to see the unique creations that emerge from studying the work of a specific artist!

It might still feel like winter outside but the Creative Fingers Summer Art Camp is fast approaching! The summer schedule of classes will be posted soon so keep an eye out!
We're bringing a little green into the studio to combat the cold and grey! Understanding how light interacts with objects and colors, and how light changes depending on the time of day, is vital tool for every artist. As contemporary artist James Turrell puts it: "Art history is littered with work that involves light."

Great Job Brooke!
Painting Ice Cream Sundae Still Lifes and then eating them... what more could you ask for! Bryce, Yi-Chuane, Lydia, Qwenn, and Adelle had so much fun in class!
Watch out Dior and Chanel, here comes Angelina and Caroline! Can't wait to see these two fashion designer's new collections!
Luc busy at work creating his evil cartoon villain Cyrus. Stay tuned to meet Danny, who will save us all from the clutches of Cyrus. Can't wait to see where Luc's imagination takes us next!
Lydia, Adelle, Qwenn, Paxton, and Evan had so much fun creating wooden sculptures. They were all so unique. Each student rendered their ideas on paper and then followed their own plans to build these creative works of art.
The afternoon Clay Class created some very expressive clay busts of themselves. Each child was given a particular expression that they then had to sculpt on their piece. Using the aid of a mirror, they made a mound of clay come to life. So proud of them!
We studied Calder's wire sculptures, and Evan and Paxton created their very own! Good job guys, you nailed it!
Eastern art has had a great influence on Western art. In class, we studied cherry blossoms!
Maria's giraffe is complete. Ernie looks fantastic, Maria!
The Tuesday afternoon sketch class worked on drawing portraits. The gals nailed their self portraits!
Coco's underwater coral reef, a perfect home for Dory!
Jack studied Frank Stella's wood construction "Jarama". Stella's inspiration for this was the race track in Spain called "Jarama". Jack created a wooden car wash, which he painted later.
Meet David Reed. David has been taking lessons at Creative Fingers for 8 years! These photos are from David's first art show, at Hudson's Fine Art and Framing, last September. All of David's work is available for purchase in print form. Select original pieces are also for sale. He may be commissioned for future works as well.
We had fun doing gesture drawings earlier this week! Here are some of the artists working on their pieces...
