This past weekend, 9 of our St. Thomas High School musicians traveled to Richardson, Texas to participate in the 2023 Texas Private School Music Educators Association All-State Choir and Band. These students were selected for the honor of TPSMEA All-State Musician through a rigorous process of auditions this past Fall. They joined with the best private school student musicians in Texas to prepare and perform a concert at the highest standard of excellence.
The All-State Band was directed this year by distinguished composer and educator Dr. Quincy C. Hilliard in an exciting program that included one of his own compositions, as well as one by his son. The All-State Choir was also led by a noted composer, arranger, and educator, Ms. Cristi Miller. They performed a beautiful and challenging program of music that brought the audience to their feet for an encore.
Senior Colin Dixon ‘23 was among only 11 Band students in the state to be recognized for making the All-State Band for all four years of high school. Likewise, Senior James Dickinson ‘23 was among only 9 Choir students to have earned the All-State honor for four years.
Our other choir students earning All-State Recognition were Damian Wilson ‘23 (3 years), Aidan Nanquil ’23 (3 years), Evan DeAnda ‘23 (2 years), Brian Deavers ‘23 (2 years), Charlie Bellomo ‘24 (2 years), Will Wittman ‘24 (first year), and Maxwell Manning ‘25 (first year).
St. Thomas High School was well represented by these dedicated, hard-working musicians during the All-State weekend. We are very proud of their achievement and artistry.
