Over the course of his seven-decade music career, Houston's Grady Gaines has established himself as one of the most influential saxophonist in blues, rock 'n roll and R&B music. In the earl '50s, as bandleader of the Upsetters, Grady played a huge role in the launch of rock 'n roll pioneer Little Richard's Hall of Fame career. In the 1960s, the Upsetters became the go-to backing band for iconic si

The book, "I've Been Out There: On the Road With Legends of Rock 'n Roll," by Texas A&M University Press, takes a look at his amazing musical journey and is due to be published in April 2015.

On behalf of myself and Grady, I just want to take a moment to say thanks to everyone for your support of the book this year. If you purchased a book or came to one of our signing events or just wished us well, we thank you for your kindness. Thanks to the fine folks at Texas A&M University Press for all the work they have done and continue to do to help us get the book out there and to the venues that hosted our appearances. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

A big shout out to Thomas Escalante, owner of Sig's Lagoon, for hosting me and Grady at the book signing last Saturday. We had a blast meeting the fans, many of whom had seen Grady perform in the '60s. If you used to spend your spare time perusing the aisles at record stores, you'll love Sig's, which features a great selection of just about every genre of music and a great old-school vibe. Check it out if you haven't yet. Thanks to my wife, Wendy, for snapping these pics during the signing.
