Transitioning Woodshock from BYOB to Zero BYOB was a tricky situation. For the previous three years, fans would pull wagons full of alcohol into the event. It was fun for the fans and added to the rebellious culture of the event.

For many reasons you can imagine, I needed to show effort and intent to stop and curb underage consumption. So, I decided we’d sell the beer and check IDs with wristbands.

But because Woodshock was about the fans, affordability, and the feeling of freedom in its nature, in my mind, to be fair to the fans, I figured I’d just sell the beer for $1.00 a can. At that time, each can was approximately $0.85 wholesale, and we sold 15,000 cans. This left a profit of around $2,500 after expenses, which we donated all to the Children’s Hunger Alliance.

I also learned that selling beer for $1.00 at a super hyped rock concert brought a whole new element I wasn’t expecting. IT WAS WlLD!! Does anyone remember that year?
