Though my own heart
grows weary
And freedom or loneliness
whatever one chooses to call it is more than a passing notion
And tear stained journals
stack up like overdue library books
I still believe in Black love.
Even when I wade through the sea of bitter hatred, despair and discord and conversations void of clarity but colored red and blue
I still believe in Black Love.
Even when I feel no choice but to manifest a joyful plan B that I won’t regret at the last breath when my generations gather close for words of wisdom,
I will whisper “I still believe in Black Love”.
I still believe in the intermingling of the two original souls, of the sun and earth, yin and yang the eternal masculine and feminine and in star dust and the word that was with creation when he that was created for me was formed
I still believe in Black Love.
In the times of my ancestors where scores miles couldn’t keep us from a few stolen moments in the night under the threat of death and when stolen kisses and promises of short forevers were declared in the canopy of wise of trees they still believed in Black Love.
And today in the times of social media and low quality cracking Amazon mics and Wayfair discount couches
and inboxes of obscenities, of engagements and marriages that last only as long as it takes to say I don’t anymore
I still believe in Black Love.
I still believe in me, in my divinity, in my fierce devotion and physical fire with that hot but slow burn, and even when my hope flickers like a scented candle needing it’s wick trimmed and even when my tears rival the heavy rains of Spring-Summer in Houston, I still believe in Black Love and I still believe in him. He who knows himself, who look time to love himself best before engaging another, an earthly god with knowledge learned in triple darkness, melanin skin illuminated by love, by power and by self control. Because I know he lives, I still believe in Black Love. I was created from it and in it and I have created from it and in it. It was good.
Though my own heart grows weary some days, I still believe in Black Love. Always will.
