From crafting canoes and calabashes to dyeing kapa, early Hawaiians found purpose in every part of this plant. But it's those stunning tangerine-orange blossoms that make Kou a showstopper in lei making.
We sat down with Ronson, a musician and lei maker at Nā Lei, to watch him string a Kou lei by hand and hear what draws him to this beautiful craft.
