She is a pilot who teaches writing, yoga & meditation, loves to travel, read, garden, & the outdoors! Kat Baum is a versatile individual with a broad range of life experience. Since getting her Master’s Degree in Linguistics, Composition, and Rhetoric in 2003, she has taught all ages, from K-12 to University to Adult Education, for over 25 years. Her first decade of teaching was in Alaska, first o
n Annette Island in Southeast, and then on the Kenai Peninsula. From there, she taught Composition at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota until March of this year, when she moved to Hawaii. She currently lives in Honolulu and teaches Composition at the University of Hawaii, that is when she is not flying over the gorgeous islands finishing her pilot’s license, or wandering the island with her guitar and dulcimer as a teaching artist doing workshops in songwriting, poetry, and music. She also teaches yoga and meditation, and loves to weave these, as well as music, into her classes. She loves to travel, cook, garden, and read, but she is happiest when she is in nature, whether hiking, swimming, or paddling in the ocean or under a waterfall, or just sitting somewhere beautiful to witness the sunset.
