We are just a few thousand dollars away from purchasing our design package! This is a crucial step in the process that will lay the groundwork for deciding on a solid location, design, and size for the skatepark.

Every little bit helps at the beginning of a project.

Once we purchase and complete this professional design package, it will make it much more appealing to large donors, sponsors, and the local government to pitch in.

We understand that the holidays can be a difficult time to contribute in a financial way. Your support is what truly matters most.

We would also like to offer everyone an opportunity to contribute in more ways than donations. It would be truly appreciated if you could email us at [email protected] with your personal testimony of the importance and impact of a new skatepark for our community. This pyramid has always had potential, this new rail is going to make it way better. Ben Harness donated steel, Simeon Daigle broke it and Chris Richey worked with my iffy design to get it attached without bringing it up too much

Big thanks to Church on the Rock this week, they sent Justin Lovejoy and a team of workers out to the skatepark on Serve the City Day.

They painted some ramp exteriors, swept and generally cleaned up the place. Looking sharp!

We've got more painting to do this summer - the city has some skatepark specific paint coming this way. It's specifically made to give a little grip and to last a long time. No more slick ramps, they can get ridden the way they should be.

Skatepark momentum continues! We brought in a new manual pad with step up rail plus a new independent rail tonight.

We figure the manual pad is in the right spot, if the solo rail is choking out lines then we can move it around, let us know if you think there is a better place. Pavement remediation may open up some new areas.

Whos getting lots of thanks? Lets see....

Ben Harness from Harness Brothers Construction donated the sheet metal, shop space and tools.

Simeon Daigle, boat builder extraordinaire, took time off from his work and bent the metal in his press.

Jacob from Kachemak Automotive Refinishing added the frame and the rail, then rassled it onto a trailer and delivered it to the park.

Someones going to paint it in the next few weeks and it could be you - drop a note if you want to help.

The whole project went super fast - this parks going to go from pretty bad to pretty OK if we keep it up.

Park users - I want to politely get in front of a problem that will be coming at us - unattended children at the park.

In the past the park has not been a great place for skating/biking etc. Lots of parents have been bringing kids there to use the ramps as slides, as a place for hide and seek or other free play and that has been a pretty reasonable thing to do because it hasn't been getting a lot of use.

Friends of the Homer Skatepark is working hard to make it a place where riders can have fun at all levels. We expect more users as the park gets better and more high speed high energy riding. It's not going to be a good place for an unattended toddler to roam.

Please bring kids of all ages there to push bike, scooter, learn to skate or even just run around on the ramps, it's all going to be fun for them. But, if you see that there are people there who want to use the park for riding please keep your kids at a safe distance, and when the kids are just doing free play redirect them to the lawn or go to Karen Hornaday/Ben Walters/school playgrounds/beach.

Riders - let parents know politely when their kids are playing right in your line, neither the kids nor the parents may recognize what's happening.

One more thing - brooms aren't for sword fighting. We are spending money to replace broom handles that could be used to make the park better. I know it isn't riders who are breaking them...
