From the 2025 ASC Photo Gallery Collection — benefiting the ASC Vision Committee’s scholarship program — now available for purchase at the ASC store.

The ASC debuted their 2025 collection at the historic ASC Clubhouse. Sponsored by Canon, the exhibition showcases still photographs created by ASC cinematographers and is curated by Paris Chong, director of the Leica Gallery LA, with printing courtesy of Canon U.S.A. The artwork will remain on display at the Clubhouse for a full year and is also available to view — and purchase — through the ASC Store.

Individual prints and box sets support the advancement of underrepresented cinematographers, their crews, and other filmmakers through ASC Master Class scholarships.

Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC, Rachel Morrison, ASC, and Adam Newport-Berra, ASC, are the announced instructors for the October ASC Master Class, now sold out. The five-day session runs October 24-28 in Hollywood with a special focus on shooting film, and additional instructors will be announced.

Steven Poster, ASC accepted the Mentor Award on October 2 at the International Cinematographers Guild's 28th annual Emerging Cinematographer Awards at the DGA Theater. Poster, a past president of both the ASC and ICG, has chaired the ECA Awards for the past 19 years. Darran Tiernan, ISC received Local 600's Distinguished Filmmaker Award, and seven emerging cinematographers were honored as their shorts were screened.

Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC, joins the October ASC Master Class as a confirmed instructor, with a special focus on shooting film.
Van Hoytema, whose credits include Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, Oppenheimer, and The Odyssey, will share his experience and insight on the unique attributes of shooting on motion-picture film, which may include 16mm, 35mm, and 65mm formats. The session covers production and post, including instruction on working with the lab.
The five-day seminar takes place October 24-28, 2026, in Hollywood and is designed for cinematographers seeking an intermediate-to-advanced skill set. All necessary equipment is provided. Spots are limited.

The American Society of Cinematographers has selected the 2026 ASC Student Heritage Award winners across four categories. Leo Gianfagna of the School of Visual Arts received the George Spiro Dibie, ASC Undergraduate Award for Dismissal, and Zhenglong Zhai of the New York Film Academy received the Tom Houghton, ASC Graduate Award for Under Grace. Yaxin Mao of the University of Southern California received the Haskell Wexler, ASC Documentary Award for Artificial Love, and Jake Frazer of The Australian Film, Television & Radio School received the Henner Hofmann, ASC International Award for The Native Police.

Last week, ASC Master Class students trained with Tari Segal, ASC; Marcell Rév, ASC, HCA; and Don Burgess, ASC, working through lighting and camera setups, 35mm photography, and color grading with Senior Colorist Mitch Paulson at Picture Shop. The next ASC Master Class runs October 24–28 in Hollywood, with a special focus on shooting film, including production, post, and instruction on working with the lab.

Day 3 of the ASC Master Class took place at Outpost LA Outpost LA in Pacoima, with Don Burgess, ASC leading the program.
Burgess opened with a discussion and presentation, then led students through a series of lighting and camera setups, including a three-person scene staged on a circular dolly track with a handheld operator working alongside. After a wrap-up Q&A, students traveled to Panavision Woodland Hills for dinner and a lens presentation.
