12 years ago today, I married the woman I love.

September 27, 2014

We've been through a hell of a lot in 12 years. Some amazing times, some really hard times, and plenty of moments where we probably wondered how the hell we were going to get through the next one.

I know I've made mistakes. I know I've hurt you. I know there are things I need to do better, not just say I'm going to do better. I own that.

But through all of it, you're still here. I don't take that for granted.

You've sacrificed so much for our family and for the people around you. You give so much of yourself to everyone else, and I hope you know how much I see that and appreciate it.

We've changed. Life has changed. We've both been through things that have tested us.

But we're still here.

12 years married. A whole lot of memories. Six kids we've loved like our own. More laughs than I could ever count.

I don't know exactly what the next 12 years will look like.

But I know who I want standing next to me while we figure it out.

Happy anniversary, Beth.

I love you. ❤️

WEAK.

There. I said it.

Call me weak.

I’ll probably tell you I love you.

Because somewhere along the way, we decided that weakness was something to be ashamed of.

I don't believe that anymore.

Weakness is a roadblock.

And roadblocks aren't the end of the road.

They're something you figure out how to get around, climb over, break through, or sometimes just sit beside until you're strong enough to move again.

The people I call “weak” are often the people who have survived the most.

They wake up every damn day carrying things nobody else can see.

They fight battles nobody applauds.

They keep moving while their mind is screaming, “I can't do this anymore.”

And then somehow...

They do.

That's not weakness.

That's fu***ng strength.

Real strength isn't pretending you have no limits.

Real strength is KNOWING your limits.

It's knowing where the edge is and having enough self-awareness to stop yourself from stepping over it.

It's pushing the envelope without putting your life on the line.

It's recognizing the bullet coming at you...

and choosing to move.

Not because you're afraid.

Because you're smart enough to understand that surviving the fight matters more than proving you can take the hit.

Right now?

I'm emotional.

I'm proud.

I'm lost.

I'm disconnected.

And I'll be honest...

I crave connection while being terrified to reach for it.

That's one hell of a contradiction.

Sometimes my brain runs hot. Sometimes my emotions feel bigger than the room I'm standing in. Sometimes that manic energy feels like I could tear through every wall between me and the world.

But mania isn't something I need to worship.

It's something I need to understand.

Because passion without direction can become destruction.

And intensity without control can become a crisis.

So I'm learning.

Again.

And again.

And again.

I'm learning that asking for help isn't weakness.

Calling someone isn't weakness.

Saying “I'm not okay” isn't weakness.

Taking the bullet out of the equation isn't weakness.

Choosing another day isn't weakness.

SURVIVING ISN'T WEAKNESS.

It's resistance.

It's defiance.

It's saying:

“You don't get to take me today.”

So if you're reading this and you're struggling...

If you're disconnected...

If you're afraid to reach out...

Reach anyway.

Text somebody.

Call somebody.

Sit next to somebody.

And if you don't know who to call, in the U.S. you can call or text 988. You don't have to be suicidal to reach out. The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 for people experiencing emotional distress or simply needing someone to talk to.

And if you're in immediate danger or believe you may hurt yourself or someone else, call 911 or get to the nearest emergency department.

You don't have to be strong every second.

You just have to be honest enough to recognize when you aren't.

Because once you can name the weakness...

you can face it.

Once you face it...

you can work on it.

And once you stop pretending the roadblock isn't there...

you can finally start tearing that mo********er down.

Call me weak.

I say:

I love you.

Because I know what weakness has taught me.

And I know what it took to survive it.

This is Dgnr8 living.

I am divergent.

And I'm still here.

🖤

There is a special kind of insanity that happens when you're a grown-ass adult who has responsibilities tomorrow…
…and you say:
“Just one more quest.”
Three hours later:
“Why is the sun coming up?”
