Here is Larry's introduction to bellringing at The Swallowfield Show, in the Mobile Belfries Trust's Touring Tower. Larry had never attempted to ring a bell like this before! The video starts at the "absolutely clueless" stage, and by the very end, Larry is actually getting the hang of it. 😎 There's a lot more involved in actually ringing bells in a church tower, of course, but Larry had fun learning the very basics of how to get a bell to ring.

Thanks to all the ringers who were there to share their enthusiasm for this traditional art. If you're in the UK, and you'd like to try bellringing, you can contact the Association of Ringing Teachers for more information about how to learn! 😊🔔

Today we had a very special get-together with friends that we hadn't seen in far too many years! Di, Eve, Anne and Marian were members of the Wokingham All Saints Handbell Ringers; the first handbell team that I (Carla) ever played in. ❤️ Several of them are in their 90s now, and they no longer ring, but today we all had coffee together at Anne's house, and the two of us played a couple of pieces for everyone to listen to.

It was so special to see these ladies again. We had a lovely chat, and it felt as if no time had passed since we were all ringing together in the local community. We posed for photos with our Malmark handbells, but the third photo shows one of the bells that the Wokingham All Saints team used to play. Most of the All Saints' bells were made by William Blews of Birmingham, and they always had a beautiful, mellow tone. We don't know who plays them now, but we hope they're still being used! 🥰🎶

It's been interesting to come back to Basingstoke. This is the town where we stayed when we visited England in 2022, and it's where I (Carla) lived and worked for a number of years. Just like Wokingham, some things have changed, and some have stayed the same. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends here last night, and this morning we feel as if we might not need to eat for the rest of the week. 🤣 We're going to attempt to recover from that by lunchtime today. 😁🤞

Can you see it? 😎 There is an extremely not-collectable (male) chicken on top of the church near where we're staying! This is All Saints' Church, in Basingstoke; a building that was consecrated in 1917. We don't know if the chicken dates from that time, or if it's a newer addition, but here it is, in as much detail as we could get from the opposite side of the car park. 😁🫸🐔

In a shocking piece of news, here's video footage of a gang of thieves in Egypt, stealing chickens from the back of a refrigerated vehicle as it moved at high speed. Thanks to Linda W, who was not in any way responsible for this chicken-crime, but shared the video with us. As Linda correctly observed, this is NOT the way to collect chickens. is much safer, and we recommend that. 😎🫸🐔

Our little flock of vacationing chickens have been having a great time doing tourist activities in England, and spending time with family members. Tiara Chicken and Madeline's Chicken enjoyed a trip to Marlow, and posed for a photo on the bridge, with Larry and Sophie. The church behind them is All Saints' Church Marlow, which was built between 1832 and 1835. Let's not tell Florida Chicken about this photo. FOMO is a thing among our chickens, but we can't take ALL of them everywhere we go. 😎🐔

We welcome the month of September (National Chicken Month) with the latest picture from Eileen's 2026 chicken calendar. 😁 This fine chicken has detailed feathers, bright and beautiful head-thingies and underbeak dangly-bits, and feet that are stompy enough to flatten grass. Happy ! 🥳🐔
