To have this image recognized among so many powerful and inspiring entries is deeply meaningful, and I am truly grateful to be included alongside such talented photographers.

My goal has always been to use photography as a way to share the beauty, wonder, and importance of our oceans. If an image can inspire someone to pause, appreciate the natural world, and care a little more about its future, then it has done its job.

Receiving this recognition on World Ocean Day makes it especially meaningful.

I have quite a bit to do yet on this charcoal work of Christ at the Whipping post...I have the line art completed and have pretty much blocked in the basic forms. Next up is work on details, blending, highlights and contrast of dark areas vs the lighter areas. This step is the stage where it starts to get fun!

Just finished this charcoal drawing from an E.S. Curtis photo taken in 1927 of Chief Redbird (Cheyenne Indian). I drew this once before in graphite (8” X 11” ), but wanted to see if I could pull off the drawing in charcoal. I think it came out pretty well! This one is 11.25” X 15” on gray Strathmore 400 series paper.
