You don't need to be an artist to be an urban sketcher.
You don't need beautiful handwriting.
You don't need expensive supplies.
You don't need perfect perspective.
And you definitely don't need to make every sketch look good.

You just need somewhere to sit and something you're curious enough to look at for a few minutes.

That's what I want to help you discover.

I've created a FREE Urban Sketching Starter Kit for beginners who want to learn the basics, overcome the “I can't draw” feeling, and start experiencing their surroundings in a new way.

Come make some imperfect art with me.

What if you could experience your city instead of just moving through it?

When you sit down to sketch a place, something changes.
You notice the light on a building.
The people around you.
The shape of a doorway.
The coffee you're drinking.
The little details you normally walk right past.

Urban sketching gives you a reason to slow down and pay attention.

I've created a FREE Urban Sketching Starter Kit to help you get started - even if you've never considered yourself an artist.

Learn the basics, try simple exercises, discover what supplies you actually need, and make your first sketch.

Your city is waiting. Go look a little closer.

Moved to a new country?

Between visas, paperwork, language classes, figuring out the grocery store, and trying to build a new life, it's easy to spend months simply getting things done.

Urban sketching gave me a reason to stop.
To explore.
To notice.
To begin feeling like I actually lived here - not just that I had moved here.

I created the FREE Urban Sketching Starter Kit to help you use sketching as a way to slow down, explore your surroundings, and create memories of your new home.

You'll learn what urban sketching is, what supplies you need, how to choose what to draw, basic perspective, and simple exercises to get you started.

You don't have to be an artist. You just have to be curious.

How many journal ideas have you saved… and still not made?
Collecting inspiration and creating are two very different things.

I created Art Journal Journey: Foundations & Backgrounds to help bridge that gap. With my background as an art therapist and years of teaching creative practices, I focus on helping people actually use their materials and create pages without needing everything figured out ahead of time.

Inside the class, you’ll explore approachable techniques for backgrounds, layering, and building pages so creativity feels easier to begin and easier to return to.

Your journal doesn’t need more saved inspiration. It needs your hands on the page.

What if art journaling felt less like making beautiful pages… and more like creating a space you actually wanted to come back to?

So many people stop journaling because they think they need a finished idea, a perfect style, or more artistic skill before they can begin.

I’m Rachel Mims, an art therapist and educator, and for years I’ve helped people approach creativity with more curiosity, experimentation, and permission to explore.

Inside Art Journal Journey: Foundations & Backgrounds, I’ll guide you through approachable techniques for building backgrounds, layering materials, and creating pages that feel expressive, personal, and enjoyable to make.

This class isn’t about getting it right. it’s about creating momentum and developing a creative practice that feels like your own.
