At Ravinia, we often have the privilege of watching the musical journey, from first notes to sold-out shows.

When Steans Institute faculty member Ayano Ninomiya, herself a Steans alumna, led a masterclass for violinists and violists from our Reach Teach Play programs and Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative, it was more than an instruction session—it was our mission in action. RTP students joined their peers from other Chicago-area classical music education organizations to learn directly from world-class Steans faculty, allowing them the opportunity to see firsthand where music can take them.

Reach Teach Play sparks the love of music and builds foundational skills, while Steans elevates advanced artistry. Seeing those two worlds connect shows exactly why we do what we do: opening doors and creating a clear pathway for young musicians on every step of their journeys.

Join us in celebrating violinist and recent Steans alum [tag] Karisa Chiu (’24, ’25), who just took home the Gold Medal at the prestigious 12th International Violin Competition of Indianapolis!

Karisa captivated audiences and judges alike, closing out the competition’s orchestral finals with an unforgettable performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. On top of her Gold Medal win, Karisa earns four years of international career management, a recording contract, and her upcoming Carnegie Hall recital debut!

We can’t wait to see where her incredible journey takes her next. Bravo, Karisa!

Reach Teach Play is back to school! 🎒

Our annual Teacher Institute was an incredible way to get ready for another year of hands-on music-making throughout Chicagoland schools. This program equips non-music elementary teachers across Chicago Public Schools with the tools to incorporate music into their classrooms, learning side-by-side with the teaching artists who will collaborate with them and their students all year long. Every workshop, resource, and idea shared directly fuels students' joy and learning every single day.

This past summer, we welcomed 30 violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists to the Steans Piano & Strings Program for an immersive season of artistic growth, collaboration, and discovery.

Calling all artists! Here’s your chance to win $2,000 and have your artwork represent Ravinia’s 2027 summer season.
