My gold leafing is complete! Have you learned as much as I have??

Gold leafing this massive painting was not without its struggles and challenges. Thanks for journeying with me through this process as I spent so much time, money, gold, paper, paint, and tape to achieve the look I was dreaming of.

There is still so much more to be done on this painting, and surprise, it’s due in just TWO WEEKS! Oh boy. But that’s a story for another day.

Horror! Terror! Ruin! Despair!

This is not the part two I was expecting to post. This was supposed to be a final reveal of my perfect gold leaf. Sadly, my adhesive size had other plans.

Nobody’s perfect, and neither was my product. Yes, I had to redo all of my work from my previous post. Yes, I crashed out about it. Yes, thankfully, I found a solution.

Human-made artwork is worth the struggle, don’t you think?

This has been one of the most beautiful, and yet most frustrating processes of my art career…

Walk with me as I show you how to gold leaf!

The beauty comes from the gold, of course, while the frustration stems from its delicate nature. Gold leaf is ridiculously thin, it only sticks where it’s unwanted, and the adhesive needed for it creates strong fumes.

But the challenges are SO worth the payoff! This is why gold leaf commissions are higher in price, but man, do they look awesome. AI could never. This original artwork was made by real human hands.

Meet Baymax!

This adorable dog is my latest completed personal commission. I love how projects like these add some variety to my work day!

While drawing and coloring Baymax, I was also illustrating a children’s book and developing a 4 foot oil painting. Thank you all for keeping me busy with work! You are the reason I can call this a full time job 🤍

June went by in a flash!

This month I had to say goodbye to my Seminary Studio :( It served me so well, but now I’m moving into a more permanent studio across the river!

I also dove back into the world of pet portraits, digital work, and watercolor while my husband and I moved out of our apartment. I finished one coloring book, and started a new one!

And I saw two of my Seminary paintings in use. My painting “As You Were Taught” now has a permanent home by the Sem’s auditorium. My most recent painting is all over campus as a poster for the upcoming symposium!

I’m excited to see what projects July holds :) Stay tuned!

I also wanted to share some of my favorite detail shots with all of you. This painting will be special to me for many reasons, but especially because it is my very first attempt in painting active water. And I loved it! Watch out, I think there might be more water paintings in my future 👀

Week two of three is over!

What I learned:
-Drawing a perfect circle is super hard
-Solid rays are so satisfying to paint
-Painting clouds is a breath of fresh air
-Painting a nearly perfect circle is also super hard

“Just as You Were Taught” is finished!!

Last week, I had the honor of presenting the Class Gift to Concordia Seminary from this year’s graduating class of 2026. The Dean of the Chapel invited me up at the end of a chapel service as he blessed the art, and prayed that it might be a blessing to all who see it on campus. Afterwards, I was able to share about my piece with students, professors, and staff who came to see it up close. Crazy cool stuff!! All glory to God!

Week 1 of my 3 week painting went by in a flash!

This week I fully developed my photograph and digital reference, transferred my sketch to the canvas, and painted two giant hands!

In the meantime, I finished up two of my three other major projects, delivered a new batch of prints, started house hunting, and celebrated my husband’s graduation! Phew!
