Our Story
AR Workshop offers a hands-on DIY Workshop experience, where you can create wood signs, canvas pillows, wall hangings, framed signs, wood boxes, lazy susans and more!
AR Workshop Loudoun is co-owned by Jacqueline Maglione and Michelle Shepard. Jaqui and Michelle became fast friends years ago when they discovered they both had twin boys the same age. They have always dreamed of owning their own business and fell in love with the AR Workshop concept. Jaqui and Michelle have a passion for home décor, design and spending quality time with family and friends. They believe that having a good time is important in life and you’ll often find them laughing, frequently at themselves. When not in the workshop, you can find these girls cheering their kids on at the sports fields or dancing away at a concert.
Jaqui and Michelle opened AR WORKSHOP LOUDOUN in 2018 and are thrilled to bring AR Workshop to the Reston/Herndon area and they hope to see you in the workshop soon for a girls night out, date night, birthday party or any other special celebration!

I never use Facebook or leave reviews but I wanted to for AR Workshop Reston! I made this Halloween countdown calendar there on Friday and it was such a lovely experience I figured they deserved the credit! The nice young lady who helped us was so patient and kind and very knowledgeable. And the calendar is super cute! I am already looking for excuses to do another project there. National Women's Small Business Month Highlight: Michelle Shepard & Jaqui Maglione, owners of AR Workshop Reston. These two friends have been open in Loudoun for approximately two years, but just opened their Herndon/Reston location in February 2020. They opened both locations to empower other women to create something beautiful for their homes.
Michele and Jaqui truly take the time to create a warm, inviting and safe environment for their customers. They take pride in their workshop, staff and projects and have created a gathering place where friends and family can come together in a safe and socially distant way to still be creative.
We asked how they've been able to pivot during this time. Take a look at their journey and silver linings:
We had to stop all workshops after only 3 weeks being open. Our business model was offering in person workshops, with the occasional off-site workshop for Corporate Events. Overnight we switched our model to offer DIY To Go Kits. We began with about 10 of our smaller projects and packaged all wood, designs, paint, instructions, etc. for the customer to complete their projects at home. Since beginning this in March, we have now expanded to offering over 20 different DIY To Go Kit Projects. We began shipping our projects and offering Virtual Team Building Events, family projects, and virtual Birthday Parties. We also expanded our retail and created our own Online Retail Store. We have tried to adapt and come up with ways to help our customers stay creative during this time.
