2. Where the Light Comes to Rest
3. The Last Light
4. Last Light at Jump Off Rock

7 layers of ink, colors hand-mixed, and carefully printed by hand. This piece is inspired by the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains as seen from Jump Off Rock in Laurel Park, NC (about 40 min south of Asheville).
We love to go there for the Summer Solstice sunset. Our family observes and celebrates all the solstices and equinoxes, and the Summer Solstice always gives me a small sense of sadness- the moment when the light shifts, days begin to shorten. A reminder that the abundance of the season is about to begin its slow transition into darkness.
Then each year around the Autumn Equinox, I feel the familiar pull toward the dark cozy days ahead, and yearn for that deep rest. Yet our modern lives just seem to keep going and even ramp up the activity and expectations! *sigh* 😂
p.s. I was listening to the audiobook “Weyward” by Emilia Hart while carving the blocks, so I added the little crow in there as a nod to this beautiful book. 🐦⬛
I love listening to audiobooks while carving, and I often feel like little bits of them get etched into the block- while inking it later, I often get flashes of where the story was at the time I carved that spot. It’s pretty cool!
